We hit the kitten lottery big time! There were TONS of applications for "Felix", now known as Roary, and thankfully we were first on the list to go and visit him. (I had previously sent Lenny over to PetSmart the Saturday before we adopted him, I wanted Lenny to visit him first to see if he was friendly.) Obviously, he worked his charm with Lenny, because that Monday both of us went to PetSmart to interact with him in person and were instantly smitten. We were beyond grateful that we were approved to adopt him!!
Both Cody and Roary were adoptions, our Bobo was found as a stray. Cody was adopted from Petco and Roary from Petsmart. We couldn't be more blessed!!
FROM HOLIDAYS CALENDAR:"Every single year, over 6.5 million companion animals end up in animal shelters in the U.S. Of those 6.5 million pets, 1.5 million are euthanized and only 3.2 million are adopted. To raise attention to these stark numbers, National Adopt A Shelter Pet was created. This is a day that’s observed on April 30th every year and helps to bring attention to the needless suffering of animals in shelters and encourages people to make their next pet a shelter pet because so many need a forever home."
- Over 6.5 million animals enter U.S shelters each year.
- Of animals entering shelters, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
- Every year, over 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized.
- Of the animals euthanized, 670,000 are dogs and 860,000 are cats.
- Approximately 3+ million shelter animals are adopted every year.
- Over 700,000+ animals who enter the shelter system as strays are returned to their owners.
- Of returned strays, approximately 620,000 are dogs and 90,000 are cats.
Roary is now 10 months old. He has matured into a MAJOR lap cat and puts up with so much from his annoying Sheltie brother. He is a toughie and doesn't take any you-know-what from him! Roary Rocks!!!
seems was really the lucky one like his name said as he became YOUR Rory ;O)
ReplyDeleteThat photo of Roary is so adorable...he still has that precious little face even though he's growing up so quickly! Roary and Levi were so lucky that you and Lenny were ready to open up your hearts again to adoption after your losses and that means "IT WAS MEANT TO BE" !! Happily Ever After for sure....
ReplyDeleteLove, Teddy (and Mom Pam too)
Pet adoption is great. Right now Mom would only adopt a cat if we wanted one, but there is nothing wrong with adopting dogs or cats from shelters, she has done both. Roary, you are super lucky!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet baby you were, Roary, and you've grown up into such a handsome boy. We love your resting box in the tree!
ReplyDeleteHow pawsome that you were able to get Roary. He is a mighty cute kitty and looks like he is having the time of his life with you ,<3
ReplyDeletePurrs, Julie
Like you, when I saw Da Boyz in at the pet store, ol' Cupid sent a double arrow into my heart! Still cannot believe that The Hubby trusted me; he hadn't seen them until I carried their boxes inside and let them loose!
ReplyDeleteWe will always adopt...heck, The Hubby says he was my first stray...;-)
Your story is exactly the way that Cody was adopted! Lenny never had seen him. I had called him from Petco and said "I found a really special cat"......he sure was.....always listen to your gut! Hilarious about your husband being your first stray lol!!!
DeleteRoary was so lucky you came along. He sure looks like a happy kitty.
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable! Just look at that happy face xx
ReplyDeleteroary iz so hansum
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found each other. Rescued animals are always special. ♥️
ReplyDeleteRoary is so beautiful! What a great story! After I lost my beloved Cookie, I was sure we wouldn't adopt again. I couldn't help but go onto Petfinder. We went through all the pictures and they are all adorable, but two sisters won my heart. Cookie and Oreo. In my mind, the fact that one was named Cookie (looking nothing like my Cookie), was my Cookie's way of telling me it was alright. I still miss my girl, but these sisters bring so much to love to our house.
ReplyDeleteIt was just meant to be Roary, the right sweet kitty and the right time is totally purrfection for you all!
ReplyDeleteI agree that adoption is the best way to go. We have a couple of neighbors that have to have expensive dogs and fly them in from afar and pay a hefty price. They are no different than all the other pups in the neighborhood. That's because they don't do anything with then except brag about how much they paid for them. Bless their hearts.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the boys. ♥
Roary has such a happy contented face in the last photo with you holding him! He is a lucky boy!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable pic of Roary as a baby! No wonder he caught your eye.
ReplyDeleteHe is so adorable. No wonder you immediately fell in love with him.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, Roary's pictures are just adorable! He's such a cutie and he looks so happy with you!
ReplyDeleteRoary you make a really great kitty to promote Shelter Cat Adoption. Brother Toby was a Shelter Cat and he is our wonderful reminder that Shelter Pets are Wonderful Pets. Thanks so much for all you do for those who need homes friends
ReplyDeleteGreat post. All my cats are rescues, many just appeared in the yard. XO
ReplyDeleteI’m sure the news has spread in the neighborhood. A very nice lady lives here.,.
DeleteAww, those photos of Roary are priceless, and we thing he struck gold finding someone like you to rescue him. Mom and dad do their part now and then when they make donations to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville. In fact, they have a nice big puffy dog bed and a bag of dog goodies from dad's employer down in the basement waiting for their next trip to Brother Wolf.
ReplyDeleteyou are fabulous!!!!! I normally donate items once a year but missed last year because of COVID.
DeleteLOVE THAT KITTY SO MUCH. And your beautiful doggy, too. Wonderful adoptions.
ReplyDeleteWell, Levi wasn't adopted but thanks!
DeleteAww, it's clear Roary was destined to be a part of YOUR forever family. We're all about rescues here! XO
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you found such a good furrever home, sweet Roary, you deserve it and your mommy too💗Lots of Pawkisses for all of you🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteYup, I too know *that* feeling. When I saw Dalton's huge ears and his 'what is going on I am curious' expression...I HAD to see if we could have him. Yuppers, we did!! Even MJF approved:)
ReplyDeleteLater when MJF had become an angel, I saw a pic of Benji in our local shopper...and I said to hubby...'Look!'...and well, the rest is history!
Roary was a teeny little guy, LOL! Glad he's living the life now!
That is the cutest photo! I can see why you fell in love with him.
ReplyDeleteWe accepted your invite to come visit, and are glad we did. Roary does have the sweetest, sweetest face, and we bet he's a sweet kitty, too. Congratulations on the new family member. XOX Xena, Lucy and Mom
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! You both won the lottery when he came to stay!
ReplyDeleteHappy National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day!!!! OMG, you kitties know how to relax. Adorable photos!
ReplyDeletePinot xo
What a cutie!
ReplyDeleteYou were definitely meant to be together! There will be nothing but adopted pets in our house.
ReplyDeleteSorry, neither Dakota nor Levi were adopted and I don’t regret it one bit. Not having been adopted doesn’t make them “less than”.

DeleteFelix! So irresistible. I’m glad he has a wonderful personality - he’s got a wonderful family!
ReplyDeleteThis statistics are tough. It seems like a long road to a No Kill Nation.
We sure have a lot of stray cats at PAWS, many of them very friendly. Hardly any owners show up to claim them.
xxoo,
Maggie
Roary is a lucky kitty, and you guys are lucky he chose you. I have adopted two animals in my life: Buddy the pitbull who died two months later and Molly the schnauzer who I believe had Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome when I adopted her and the rescue probably knew that but didn't tell me.
ReplyDeleteThat sweet little face! It's no wonder you couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteMummy has never bought a pet. All of her kitties have been adopted - mostly "off the street".
Roary wasn't "bought" he was adopted. The Shelter had him at Petsmart, but he wasn't "bought" per se. My first cat, Bobo, was adopted from the street as well.
