National Love Your Pet Day!!

I know, I know, if you are reading this you are going to give the same snarky reply that I gave for the past 13 years. "EVERY DAY is NATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY "and you're right. But this year, I'm looking at it less with the thought of giving a snarky reply and MORE from the viewpoint that we need to cherish EVERY SINGLE DAY with our pets because you never know if it will be the last.

In my collage below, I am showcasing the pets who have shared (and are sharing) my life as an adult. My Angel Bobo (bottom right who passed in 2007, one day after his 18th birthday, he shared my life from 6 months old to age 18), Angels Dakota and Cody are  above him, (they passed in the summer of 2020 both at the age of 13),  and Levi and Roary on the far left. (Roary joined our family in September of 2020 and Levi joined our family in November 2020, both on the 21st of their respective months!!)

Losing a beloved pet is ALWAYS hard. When it is an expected loss it is horrific, when it is a completely out-of-the-blue loss it is a hurt that is simply indescribable. Many of you have experienced losing more than one pet in a short period of time as I experienced. Cody and Dakota passed within 9 days of each other. Having them both with us for 13 years and then suddenly having them both gone, was almost more than I could bear. May you never have to experience that type of pain, and to those who have, my heart goes out to you. It is the kind of a hurt that takes quite some time (if ever), to recover from.

So, this year, rather than giving my tacit "I love my pets EVERY DAY" comment (as we ALL DO).....I am simply grateful that  my home and heart are once again experiencing the crazy times, loving times, noisy and messy times, and yes, sometimes the extremely trying times that comes with the territory when you love your pet(s).

The bottom line is, it's all worth it, isn't it?

Happy National Love Your Pet Day to all of you, I know I am going to be giving my boys extra kisses all day long,  and I hope you will give those babies of yours special kisses from ME!!

  3. Three cheers for your bottom line. It is all worth it, says I. I know some days dad would have other things to say, but like mom says, deep down he's a big softie, and he can't get enough of me. What a sweet-tastic post this is for such an extra, extra special day. Dad says this made him think hard back on all the feline companions he's had over the years and, unfortunately, can only go back so far. So, for me, Orbit, Grayson, Isaac, Dog, Fluff-Fluff, and so many others, this day's for all y'all. But now back to me...

  4. Every day is love your pets day. No one, not even pets have a guarantee on life. One of our favorite quotes is: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why it is called the present. :)

  7. Our cats are treated as the family members that they are, and we will always do everything that we can to keep them fed, watered, and healthy...even if I have to be mean to shove capsules down their throats!

  12. Beautiful post and beautiful sentiments. I lost two of my girls last year - 8 months apart and it is devastating. We have one girl left and we always make sure to worship her everyday. We added two sisters to the group a couple of months ago and we love them all so very much, although the pain of last year's loss is never gone we take every day in cuddling the girls we have now. Your bottom line says it all. It's all very worth it.

  15. Mom has loved all her pets, but losing Nellie Bellie was particularly hard, even though it was expected. We know how loved Cody and Dakota were and we know Bobo, Cody and Dakota along with Levi and Roary will always be in your heart. We are sending you much love and we are hoping you have a marvellously Happy Day!

  18. Love your Pet Day is a good day to think about adopting from shelters if you need a pet.
It is a good day to remember the ones you have lost and a good day to love the ones you have
because we never know what tomorrow brings :)
A day to treat your pets just a bit more special and recognize their importance in your life!

  21. A year ago I would probably also probably give a snarky reply, not only about this day, but also about other festive days. Life has taught me we should take every chance we get to celebrate. We only have one life and we should cherish and celebrate these occasions with our loved ones (pets included).
