How NOT to Celebrate #NationalPetDay

Yep, you read this right! It's National Pet Day and Cody and Dakota are BOTH headed to the Vet today. Dad and I will both be joining them. Dakota is being groomed and is having blood work done for an upcoming dental in late May.

Cody is going for his annual first of his two-a-year senior exams. I am rather worried about Cody's exam because he has been having a weird issue for approximately the last month. It is almost like a reverse sneeze that happens a few times a week (never more than once in a day), and a couple of times he had "honking" with it. Please keep your paws crossed that all is ok with Cody.

UPDATE: 10:45 am..so far so good, Cody had xrays and hopefully it might just be a possible hairball issue, he had Xrays and nothing significant (might have a small kidney stone that we are watching at this point), thank goodness! They are both really well-behaved there....Cody takes it all in stride, just a few grumbles, no hisses, doesn't "sing" in the car, loves when the girls there cuddle him.....our Vet is wonderful! Cody went straight to his food bowl when we returned home. Now instead of Inmate $345 he was inmate $347 today.

So, while Cody and Dakota think it is cruel to take them to the Vet on National Pet Day, Dad and I think it is a loving and responsible thing to do. If we didn't have pets in our lives, I don't think that I could function.

Happy National Pet Day to all of you!  Seeing YOUR pets brightens OUR day EVERY DAY!

  15. I'm so glad everything went so well. I hope Cody doesn't have a stone.

Yes, it's next to impossible to leave the vet's without spending several hundred. Drives me crazy!

    1. It appears he probably does have a stone but the Vet is going to watch it...actually along with his senior exam and was doing some strange coughing that didn't sound like a furball, it turns out it MIGHT be a furball. My other cat once had 6 kidney stones that had to be removed all at once. I am praying that the one that Cody probably has stays put. Thanks so much!

  16. Funny how you schedule things in advance and you see nothing on the calendar and when the day arrives, there it is! Why you should have picked another day. Watch out they don't have an annual visit next year on the same occasion! I don't blame you for putting on that face, Cody!

    1. that's exactly how that happened! It is super hard to get Dakota in for grooming (you practically have to schedule 8-10 weeks ahead that day), Cody was due for his exam in March but I pushed it into April........then, I just couldn't move it because i needed my husband to come with me since I was taking both boys and he substitute teaches and gets booked ahead of time so I had to make sure that he was free too!

  17. Interesting about that reverse sneezing. That happens to our dog Eddie every once in a while. I looked it up and it's nothing to worry about (in a dog at least). Hope Cody can pass his hairball!

    1. Hi!! Cody is 12 and here is the update that I just posted below "Cody might be beginning a thyroid issue (we just found that out today), but for now, his numbers are in the "gray" range so our Vet isn't going to do a re-check until his next exam in six months (unless something is wrong).....Dakota has to have his urine re-checked because of his protein count."

  20. Well, we sure hope all's well, especially with that odd reverse sneeze sound you mention. Hopefully it is only a hairball thing. Cat care is right up there almost with people care for sure. Mom and dad are just now getting the bills for their little... candle mishap on dad's forehead. Emergency room treatment sure has skyrocketed!

    1. thank you! Oh I hear you about ER's. It's crazy. Cody might be beginning a thyroid issue (we just found that out today), but for now, his numbers are in the "gray" range so our Vet isn't going to do a re-check until his next exam in six months (unless something is wrong).....Dakota has to have his urine re-checked because of his protein count.

  22. Not the best place to go for National Pet Day, but it's always a must. Hope everything with Cody will turn out fine and that you all enjoyed the day when you got back home. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

  24. No Cody and Dakota...that was all kinds of wrong to take you to the vet on National Pet day. I'm so glad it is over and thus far Cody is maintaining. Those senior exams give lots of info. You two take care and hugs to you and the humans in spite of the Vet vist

  26. I think extra fresh tuna fishes and plump mousies should be on your dinner menus for having to give up your day to visit the V-E-T. I've gone to the V-E-T twice already this year, so I'm thinking I totally met might quota, even though Mom says otherwise. Winks.

  27. Vets and pets go together quite well...
    Hope Cody will be OK.
    And Dakota, too

We left over 500 green papers at the vets when Pipo wasn't feeling well...shucks. And his food and the pups noms cost as much as the peeps it weems...we do love our furry kids, so well, the price is not what we dwell upon...at least not too much, MOL!

  28. I've heard of a bunch of cats having that issue with the reverse sneeze but I don't remember what they were told. TW sez I make some pretty weird noises but I don't know if it's a reverse sneeze. Kidney stones run in your family. You've even given them to Cody! Anyway, I hope all is well.

    1. OMC you made me laugh about the stones!!! It was hard to tell if it was a sneeze, a few times he actually honked with it! Since the Vet told me to give him some malt (for a possible stuck hairball), he hasn't had an episode, I am home most of the time but not all of the time and so far there has been nothing since last Thursday. (Paws crossed it is done).....there IS a possible thyroid issue but for right now his numbers are in the "gray" area...the Vet said he doesn't want to recheck him until 6 months from now, unless he gives me reason to have him rechecked sooner. xoxo Thank you!!
