Hi everyone it's Cody!! While pawing through our cat calendar Mom and I noticed that today is National Popcorn Day! National Popcorn Day is celebrated at the end of January, although its exact date is often debated.
Did you know that even I get to taste a bit of popcorn when Mom makes it? Now, don't worry, Mom bites into a piece and gives Dakota a bit and then she breaks off a teeny-tiny piece for me too and I LOVE IT! (Mom never, EVER gives Dakota or me a whole piece because it could get stuck in our throat and we could choke!! The pieces she gives us are super tiny!)
My Mom and my Sheltie brother are popcorn fanatics! Mom makes popcorn at least twice a week. Some of you have seen this crazy video a few times on Dakota's blog, but for those who were lucky enough to have NEVER seen it, your luck has just run out!!! Here is Mom teasing Dakota incessantly by singing her crazy popcorn song to him and getting him all worked up. (That's because Shelties can spell!!! I can too, but I don't get all worked up about things the way Dakota does!) Please excuse Mom's awful voice, it's sooo embarrassing!
Even Dakota had enough and exited stage left!
Mom's likes to use REAL KERNELS when she makes popcorn, (not that microwave junk in the bag with all of the chemicals). She puts it in a microwave safe bowl (you can also put it in a paper lunch bag and make it that way too.). Mom doesn't use oil, she just covers it and pops it. Then, when it comes out, Mom drizzles it with olive oil and sprinkles on some parmesan cheese. When Mom isn't planning on sharing with us she will add garlic powder to the popcorn and other spices, but she will be the first to admit that she hasn't made it that way in a long time because she knows she always ends up sharing it with us.
There are many ways to celebrate National Popcorn Day , but the best way to celebrate is to make some! Have you ever tasted popcorn? Do you like it? What do YOUR humans like to put on theirs? Do tell!!
The humans here like kettle corn! They haven't had it for a while, though, because my human's boyfriend decided to go all keto with his diet. My human thinks he is nuts - she needs her carbs or she is perpetually hungry.
ReplyDeleteWe love popcorn, but not for Lucy!
DeleteWell, that was a corny experience...I mean, NOT corny, but funny and corny and LOVE the duet!
ReplyDeleteOh fun!!! My Mom used to make popcorn once in a while but hasn't in a while - when she DOES make it, she puts butter on it - REAL butter - not fake stuff. She says even though it's not good for her it's yummy and life needs a little yummy!! Thanks for reminding her (she says) about popcorn....I bet we have some soon.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar likes to cook me some popcorn in the microwave. Although, she asked me how much um, "pupcorn" I wanted.
ReplyDeletePenny's human dad,
Gary ๐๐
National popcorn day? I had no idea. Hmmm... I'd say my favorite is kettle corn or caramel. However, these days I only eat at the movies because popcorn kernnels always manage to get stuck in my teeth. ( Sigh)
ReplyDeleteCody, your mom is a riot! I have popcorn a couple times a week, but I make the "in the bag" kind.
ReplyDeleteOMC please try it this way, Mom and I think you will LOVE IT! Love, Cody
DeleteYour mom's popcorn sounds delicious! Popcorn isn't something our human typically eats, though she does love it, especially saturated with butter. Ha.
ReplyDeleteOur Mom likes to make popcorn but we only get to smell the yum, she hasn't shared!
ReplyDeleteSadie loves popcorn too! We have an (old) Orville Redenbacher microwave corn popper. No oil needed--pour kernels in and heat. It works great!
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of but when I am, it best when made the old fashioned way with butter. Because everything is better with butter. ๐ฟ๐
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful that you get popcorn. Mom knows how to do it right too.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect day, Cody. My best to your wonderful mom. ♥♥♥
Oh Dakota we loved your P O P C O R N video.....your mom is funny!
ReplyDeleteHugs madi your bfff
Oh dear, Cody and Dakota! She actually sings that song to you? Oy Vey! I love popcorn, but eat is sparingly because I can eat a ton at a time.
ReplyDeleteKettle corn is the best, but WE cats never get more than a sniff!

I'm a popcorn fanatic myself. I really like my popcorn smothered in butter. Lots of butter. Here's to popcorn today.
ReplyDeletePopcorn karaoke! We love it.

I miss popcorn. I don't know if restricting certain foods (whole nuts ... popcorn) during my years with anorexia caused me to not be able to tolerate them anymore ... or maybe it's my IBS rearing it's annoying head in my thirties - but I do miss it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since there's been popcorn here but we don't know why. Both of our peeps love it. They must be too lazy to make it. Our angel sisfur Sadie loved popcorn. We like tortilla chips.
ReplyDeleteAnything natural is best, and popcorn is no exception. Sounds nice but also quite fattening too for my diet. Still I can but dream and salivate MOL

That is a cute video of Dakota. I love popcorn too.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds yummy! Your Mum is nice to let you have a tiny nibble, too =) The popcorn song-wowzers =)
ReplyDeleteOlive oil and Parmesan cheese?!?!? Oh, that sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteYep! Olive oil and Parmesan cheese!! (you can even use the Kraft kind that you shake on), I use a little better "shake on" type but some people actually shave the cheese on to the popcorn. (That's a little too expensive for me lol)........the kind you shake on works fine and it is delicious!
DeleteHoly Cow! Mom said she will TRY that!
ReplyDeleteit's delicious! Hoping Mom loves it! Tell Mom if she doesn't share with you, if she likes garlic, she should add some...it is delicious that way but I never add garlic when i share with the boys!
DeleteOh nummy we wuv da popcorns and we wuv Dakota's and your Mama's singing da popcorn song :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Matilda & Matt
you are so sweet, thank you!
DeleteThat pop corn song is too funny...bwhahahaha! Now there will be choking an any size of popcorn! MOL!
ReplyDeletePetcretary doesn't have popcorn in the den anymore...sort of the same reason as Summer's Human Man helper...anypaws, she may gobble some if they get out the big popcorn machine at her work...mmmm...the delish aroma pulls you to it and you HAVE to have some:)
MOL! We loved the duet!!
ReplyDeleteMOL MOL!!! Thank you!!
DeleteWhoa! I've never had popcorn. TW is cray cray about that Indiana Kettle Corn but hogs it all herself. She can practically eat the family-size bag herself in one sitting.Rumor has it she used to make her use popcorn in the old days.
ReplyDeleteLove those eyes, very pretty cat!
ReplyDeleteThank you! He is a boy ;)
DeleteWho doesn't love popcorn?! I actually have a hot air popper - it works fast and great, and I don't have to use the microwave (which I generally avoid, for some unknown reason).
ReplyDeleteLucky boys, Cody and Dakota! The humans here don't share their popcorn with us furkids (but maybe they should!).
ReplyDeleteHow could Claire miss that day ? She loves popcorn, but with sugar. Purrs
ReplyDeleteMmmmm....we haven't made popcorn for a while, but we always share it with the dogs when we do. Sam is not a fan, but we used to have a cat, Don Juan who would sit right with us whenever we were eating it...he loved it.
ReplyDeleteI gave up the microwave popcorn a while ago too, and got one of those special pans for making it. I like it best cooked in oil! :)
Popcorn Day! Oh! Yum! Mommy and I had popcorn for supper last night! I do not like it as much as Queen Penelope did, And we had cheese with ours! Mommy gave me American cheese rolled into little balls! I LOVE that!

I LOVE popcorn, but I rarely eat it at home. We buy the junk-in-the-bag microwave popcorn, so I rarely feel the urge to eat it. But we go to the movies all the time and I can't go without getting popcorn!!! Sometimes my hubby thinks I go just so I can get some popcorn. :-) I'd never seen that video of Dakota before, too cute!!
