As pet parents we often think we know our pets inside and out. When it comes to our pets and their quirks, WE know it ALL and no one can tell us any different. That is exactly how I felt when it was time for me to try the Kinn Kleanbowl out on Cody.

I had read about the Kleanbowls before, and was mostly excited to try the bowl out for Dakota. So much so that I hesitated asking for one for Cody. Why? BECAUSE CODY WILL ONLY DRINK WATER OUT OF DAKOTA'S BOWL. (Or so I thought. I have been trying to break Cody of this habit for NINE YEARS.  NOTHING WORKED...until the Kleanbowl.)

Cody received the Kinn 8 oz Kleanbowl. Hi my furiends both furry and non. It's Cody, and today I am taking over the blog from Mom because I have some things that I need to meow about. I am feeling rather philosophical, so I hope you will indulge me! I am nine years old now. I have spent nine years observing, as well as thinking.

This week the U.S. will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  If you look at the word closely, it isn't just a proper noun, the action of giving thanks is a verb. .  The word Thanksgiving is made up of "Thanks" and Giving."  

From what I have observed, it seems that many humans spend more time preparing for THE DAY AFTER Thanksgiving (Black Friday, which my Mom and I happen to hate, we think it should be called "Greed Friday", but I digress....), than preparing for and celebrating what Thanksgiving is SUPPOSED to be about. A day of giving thanks for all that we have, and if you want to break it down further, for GIVING to others.

It makes me sad when I see humans not acknowledging that. To many humans, it seems that Thanksgiving is nothing more than a bump in the road to get over in order to celebrate the "real" holidays...Christmas..........and this year because it happens to fall at the same time as  Christmas, Chanukah. (Chanukah often falls right after Thanksgiving and a few times it has fallen right ON Thanksgiving).

Each year it seems that Thanksgiving gets pushed further into the background. This year I am putting my paw down and saying "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!"  Hang tight for just a few more days humans!!!  You will be "fa-la-la-la-la'ing" and "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel'ing" before you know it!!! But for now....

Pet Hair Remover:Lilly Brush "Be Forever Furless" A World-Wide Give-Away!!!

If you have cats or dogs most of the time, you have FUR....lots of it (unless you have a non-shedding pet or a fur-less cat).... we love our pets, but we don't love the hair they "get...on...everything!" (By the way, even if you have a non-shedding pet, the "Be Forever Furless" with Lilly Brush will work on dirty paw prints left on chairs, couches, etc!)

Removing pet fur from chairs, couches, clothing, etc., can be a major annoyance. Of course, you can vacuum, but often a vacuum is more of a nuisance to take out (and it annoys and often frightens our pets!!), than it is worth.  And...who wants to keep going through rolls and rolls of sticky tape? Not me!

and because, like most of you, I have fur EVERYWHERE, I decided to give the full sized "Be Forever Furless" with Lilly Brush  a try! Now, I will admit because of being super busy and rather distracted lately, (between the World Series and the Election..'nuff said!),  I only got a chance to test the brush  out once, that being said, I was pleased with the results!

I chose to remove some of Cody's fur from one of the worst places it accumulates, his carpet-topped cat tower. It might not have been a totally fair place to test the brushes because the fur there has been there an embarrassingly LONG time, and is rather deeply embedded, making it more difficult to remove.  (Keep in mind, Cody is a SHORT HAIRED cat, if the "Be Forever Furless" Brush worked that well with HIS fur, it should work even better for you!)

The case is just the cutest! It reminds me of a toothbrush travel case and I love it! It would fit in a purse, glove compartment, desk drawer at work, anywhere that you happen to be on-the-go! I love that it is red, which makes it easier to find if you store it in a drawer.

They provide all sorts of care from giving love to kitties and woofies, providing food and water, playtime, socialization and all sorts of things!

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP

CELEBRATE ANIMAL SHELTERS?

 SHARE ADOPTABLE PETS--Visit a Shelter's website and if they have a widget for a daily featured adoptable animal, you can install it on your blog if you are a blogger. (We have had one on our sidebar for years). If you are not a blogger, you can share an adoptable animal on your Facebook page.

 GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SHELTER--Visit their website,  "like" them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, stop in and visit in person.

 PURCHASE ITEMS FROM YOUR LOCAL SHELTER--Many shelters have websites where you can purchase items such as  T-shirts, mugs,holiday cards, calendars, there are all sorts of things that you can order and the proceeds go towards helping animals. (In many instances the shelters also offer the items that are for sale online at their physical locations too). For the past few years my Mom has bought holiday cards from Michigan Humane (some of you may have received one in past years). It's a "win-win" for the animals, you and your card recipients.

 VOLUNTEER--Many shelters would appreciate a volunteer coming to walk or play with dogs, clean cages for dogs and cats, help with feeding and so much more....SPEAKING OF FOOD....

• Pet-Safe Brand dog toys, especially their Busy Body line including their Squirrel Dude and Buddy Barnacle items!  
• Catnip-based mice/toys  (kitties love these!)

• Fleece blankets are a slice of heaven for homeless pets! 18” by 18” or so for cats, for dogs, 3’ by 3’ is just about right.

 

Parking

Upon entering the parking lot there will be a $5 charge per regular sized vehicles and for larger vehicles there will be a $10 charge. Parking spots will be directed by the parking attendants as you enter.

The Novi Pet Expo is located at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. The Suburban Collection Showplace is conveniently located at 46100 Grand River Avenue, between Novi and Beck Roads in Novi, MI. Our facility can be accessed from I-96 at the Novi and Beck Road exits.

Had a great time at the Novi Pet Expo  when I was there in 2014, hope to be there this year too! Might be there Sunday, look for me!!!

When SHOP CATS of New York arrived at my home, I was immediately taken by the cover. It is intriguing, gorgeous and captivating. I thrive on tactile and visual stimulation.  The book is hard cover, (it even FEELS good!), printed on high quality paper that does justice to  the magnificent photos.

Like  a cat cannot wait to climb into a new box, SHOP CATS of New York became MY brand new box, and I couldn't wait to jump in!

A book that features two of some of my favorite things in the world, Cats and New York, written by one of my favorite cat bloggers whom I have followed from way back when I first began blogging, Tamar is  PURE (or "PURR") NEW YORK! Quirky, animated, artsy, unique, a trend-setter, full of passion and enthusiasm for the cats, people and life in the city that she loves, NEW YORK.  I knew this was going to be GOOD. I was NOT disappointed. It is BETTER than "good." I was born on Long Island, NY and both of my parents were from Brooklyn. I still have family there, I have friends there. New York is a place that makes you come alive, it is a place where I feel that with my boisterous and loud personality  I don't stand out, I blend in. I feel at home there. But what about these cats? How were they discovered?

For Author Tamar Arslanian, resident New Yorker and cat lover.  It was "only natural" that she noticed cats wherever she went. As she started meeting cats in various shops around her neighborhood she became curious as to where she could find others throughout the city.  After doing some research and meeting superb photographer, Andrew Marttila "at a cat event-where else?" SHOP CATS was born.

"From the Algonquin Hotel to a local yoga studio, felines rule their urban domains. Arslanian and Marttila  expose witty stories of:two meat eating cats who live in a vegan shoe shop, a pharmacy cat with the title "Her Royal highness Princess Ivy of Neegard",  who has one human disciple
who travels two hours to bring her gifts. A pharmacy cat named Allegra, an allergy medicine,

whose owner is highly allergic to cats, a wine store cat with his own chiropractor, (he has a bad back),  a cat who is a the mascot at a dog boutique." Any many more!!!

Of course I HAD to feature "Bobo" shown above (since my first cat and "soul kitty" was named "Bobo"). The Bobo featured above resides at JAPAN MARKET INC., Chinatown, Manhattan. 

Lest you think that the cats in these shops are merely used as "mousers" and not cared for, think again. That couldn't be further from the truth. The cats often get more mental stimulation and love than cats who are in a traditional "home" environment. They have customers who visit them regularly, who "oooh" and "ahhh", whisper sweet nothings and caress sweet kitty faces more than we might have time for with our cats at home. They have all they could hope for, and then some. Most importantly they are LOVED. As a result, SHOP CATS of New York hopes that shelters in their area will consider allowing more businesses to adopt cats, and that the myth that cats who reside in businesses are strictly used to control mice and insects will be dispelled. 

Years ago before I had a blog, I remember stopping into a Bird Seed shop with a resident kitty, as well as a cat boutique (that has since closed), that had cats regularly strolling in the shop on a daily basis. 99.9% of the reason I even visited those shops were because of the "shop cats" who "worked" there. It makes me wonder, could we be looking at a series of books featuring cats located in various cities around the United States and the World popping up???? Tamar and Andrew, are you listening? We can only hope!!!!
