FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY: Portions of this post originally appeared in 2015, I have done some editing, but maintained the original link. That is why comments from last year are currently showing! This cause is near and dear to my heart because when I adopted my Angel Bobo, I had found him as a stray wandering the streets. I had searched two weeks for his original owner, after the two weeks, I kept him and he shared my life for 18 years.
On Saturday, August 20, 2016, ISAR will join forces with humane societies, animal protection organizations, animal-friendly businesses and concerned individuals to shed light on dog and cat overpopulation and the importance of spay/neuter.
Since 1992, ISAR has reserved the third Saturday of August as a platform for thousands of dedicated, humane-minded people to come together in solidarity to enlighten communities about a tragedy that affects all communities: cat and dog overpopulation and its simple solution: spay/neuter. IHAD is often marked with candlelight vigils, blessing of the animals ceremonies, spay/neuter clinics, adopt-a-thons, animal shelter open houses, microchip clinics, marches, speeches given by veterinarians, humane officers, and shelter personnel, and much more.
Please join us on International Homeless Animals’ Day! There is never a better time than the present to create positive change for unwanted animals.
This is SUCH an important day! I wish there were events everywhere!
ReplyDeleteYes an important day, I would have to remember this.

ReplyDeleteyou are welcome! On my way over! (Your blog goes to my secondary email account, wish I could change that), so that is why I don't see things in a timely manner) xoxo
DeleteIncredible campaign, 14 years is amazing. Thank you for the reminder and all of the details about ISAR!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the campaign is incredible!!Yep, 14 years! You are most welcome! Maybe one day all of the furbabies will have homes and there won't have to be posts like this.
DeleteWe did not know about this special day. It sure sounds like a wonderful idea. Hope it works in a lot of places. You have a great day Caren.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this special day either.. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyou are welcome!!
DeleteIt's so sad how many furs don't have homes. We are all truly lucky to have such great homes and pet parents.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this, Caren. Many shelters across the nation are holding Clear the Shelters events today, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and thank you! Yes, I am aware of that. Sadly, NBC isn't acknowledging that it was ISAR who first created this day (back in the 90s)........the bottom line though is, if all the shelters really WOULD CLEAR, then it would all be good! It is beyond sad that we even have to have days like this, no matter who started it.
DeleteThanks for letting us know about this most special day.
ReplyDeleteyou are most welcome!
DeleteAll the homeless kitties and cats in crisis is just heartbreaking. Thank you for letting know about this day... we'd not ever heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteyes it is and you are most welcome!
DeleteThis is only being a responsible pet owner. It's the first thing we always do.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect day Cody. My best to your wonderful mom. :)
I never heard about this, Caren. Thank you. PAWS is taking part in the Clear the Shelter Day today. I know the adoptions will be as carefully screened as usual. I sure hope to say good bye to a lot of cats who have been waiting so very long. And to think that they are the lucky ones, safe and off the streets in a no kill shelter.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie! Yes, this actually was created before Clear the Shelter Day........(which I think is a MARVELOUS initiative!) I pray with all of my heart that you have many people who want to adopt your wonderful cats!! All of the PAWS cats are lucky in my book! They are safe and loved!
DeleteWe posted about the other holidays today but hadn't heard of this one. I wish there was one big one we could all collaborate on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this information. It is so important to help homeless pets!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post! Thanks for sharing!

This is a super important day! Thank you for spreading the word.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! Finding homes for all pets has to be a priority!!
ReplyDeleteWe still agree with last year's comment! In fact, I added 2 homeless cats to my household this year!
DeleteHa!!! Love it!!! Wooooo hoooo you totally rock for adding 2 more kitties!!! xoxo
DeleteI yearn for the day when every animal has a home!
ReplyDeleteHomes are terrific, everyone should have one. Adopt cats, we deserve it!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great incentive! May many homes be found! :)

Such an important day. As you know, PAWS took part in Clear the Shelters yesterday, and we never knew that the genesis of all of this came from this wonderful initiative 14 years ago. Our hope is that some day, there will not be a need for such programs, but until that happens, we are glad there are.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you, dear friends!
we agree with you and love you to pieces! xoxo
DeleteA very important message to bring attention to homeless animals.
ReplyDeleteThis is an important special day.
ReplyDeleteI really would like spaying and neutering to be an obligation !
Nat Ă Chat
wouldn't it be nice if we didn't need such a day..
ReplyDeleteExcellent post Caren, such a critical message! If every single pet owner would just spay and neuter, keep updated tags on their pets, and microchip them, shelter numbers would drop tremendously! Keeping pets out of shelters in the first place by doing these things is the solution to the root cause of the problem (tons of pets in shelters), & not just the symptoms (overcrowded shelters and euthanasia). Thanks for this post.

I didn't know about the special day. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for letting us know about this day - it's an important message to share!
ReplyDeleteThis is personal for me too. Bear was homeless when I adopted him and brought him inside. Even though he was starving, he'd ignore the food I brought him for as long as I'd sit outside and pet him. How can you NOT fall in love? Most people say Bear was lucky to find me - that I rescued him - but in truth, he's saved me every day of the past 10 years and I wouldn't trade a second with him for anything. Here's this little kitten that most people would've considered a nuisance or unwanted, and he changed my ENTIRE life as well as healing parts of me I didn't even know needed healing!
ReplyDeletethat was so beautiful because my Angel Bobo was a stray too. I was blessed to have him in my life for 18 years...I soooo know how you feel about Bear ((((hugs))))) you are BOTH lucky to have found each other!
DeleteIt hurts my heart to hear an animal referred to as "unloved" or "unwanted".
ReplyDeleteOnce again great minds think alike! I was once homeless too. TW found her Nicky roaming the streets. Thanks for calling attention to this important date.
ReplyDeleteI am honored to be in good company! So far, you, me and one other are the only ones I have seen who blogged about this. Your Nicky was like my Angel Bobo who was a stray too! xoxo
ReplyDeleteExcellent post! I am glad you rescued your Angel Bobo. Many of our cats were strays that ended up at our door.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! Oh I know you are WONDERFUL about adopting cats who need homes! Cody is lucky, he was adopted so young that he has never known anything other than having a home and full belly!
DeleteThank you for sharing this. Eight of our kitties found themselves homeless for various reasons such as owners moving, getting tired of their pets, allergies, not willing to train etc. It all starts with spay/neuter and education on what a forever home actually means.
ReplyDeleteyou are welcome and KUDOS to you for helping all of those kitties! I read your comment about Cody's "build" and you are right!!!
DeletePawsum posty. We hate it dat any animal specially kitties have to be homeless. Da domestic cat would never choose dat life ifin some human didn't start it and do it to them. It just angers and frustrates us so much. Anyways, fanks fur sharin'. We're sendin' purrayers fur all da homeless kitties.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Raena
I wish there were events all OVER this Country and more and more people becoming involved, Cody.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely support spay and neuter. Still shocked when I hear of people who don't spay/neuter.
