    1. Thank you Chuck! That photo is about 3 yrs old but i love it too. You are welcome, that is why the gender aspect should be cast away! It should just be "People Who Love Cats!" as Ingrid said

  3. I like your response that a modern cat lady can be anything she wants to be. I'm glad more people are working on busting the cat lady stereotype, but I'd like to see this discussion go one step further: instead of being called cat ladies, or cat guys, can't we just be people who love cats? Why do we need a label at all?

  4. Ingrid I completely agree and that is what I meant when I said "I believe that in this day and age NO ONE should be labeled" and I suggested changing it to "Modern Cat Person"........I like your idea of "people who love cats".........period! That's what we all are! I sooo agree!

  5. Caren, I LOVE your response! You're absolutely right, we're anyone we want to be! And the reason I'M a cat person is because my life just wouldn't be complete without them. I'd go on to say that photographing cats, writing as them and about them, has expanded my love and made me even more connected to my own kitties. They make me laugh, they touch my heart and they are part of my family.

  6. Have to say, mum says, she is her own self too... just like Frankie de tabby, He is his own twenty year old cantankerous self and we wouldn't want him any other way, well, I might given the choice of him smacking me with his paw.

  7. You said it just right Caren and so did Ingrid. Nothing wrong with loving our cats and it sure doesn't need to have a label. People are just jealous because all of us cat owners love our cats for many reasons. I sure couldn't live without my cats even though there are way too many of them but that is also a lot of love coming my way from my cats. They are the best what ever people want to call me.
Have a great day Caren along with Cody and Dakota.

  9. I *was* a regular lady, single and no cats even...then I married, and lo and behold I have become a cat lady!! Six of them over the years to call my fur babies, and a dog too for good measure. And well, some peeps would call me, old fashioned rather than modern, MOL!!
And so yes I have to agree, the cat lady of today is whomever she is, the kitties make her the cat lady, not the lady becoming a cat, MOL!! OMC!! I am a crazy lady...tee-hee...it helps me in my work to be a tad silly sometimes...it is who I am, as a (cat)lady!

  10. Well, I fall into the stereotype in some ways, i.e. middle-aged and solitary with the boys for company for much of the time outside of work. Oh, and pre-menopausal hormonally crazy. Seriously. That I keep company with mainly only Nicki and Derry is a choice, as I prefer the presence of most non-humans (cats or other) to that of most humans. I suppose if I had dogs or horses or something else I'd been the crazy [fill in the blank] lady.

I *would* like to see the label and stereotype put where it belongs, though: in the "garbage can." It's not only some women (and gay men!) who love cats, but these outdated modes of thinking take a long, long time to be dispelled.

  11. I would be a cat person (I think we need to take gender out too), but I'm so allergic. I love cats to pieces. It's not fair.

Have a fabulous day. Scritches to Cody. ♥♥♥

  16. Mom considers herself a former cat woman turned dog lady. We love our cats, but we dogs take the top spot at our house. Love the photo of you helping out your mom on the computer...typical cat...more of a hindrance than help!

  19. I also liked that you wrote that anybody can be a cat lady. I especially appreciated the genus point of view! Also men like cats, and no one should be excluded due to race, sex, ethnicity, religion etc. I'd only like to add that it's problematic to say "pigeon-holed by strange and antiquated definitions that are NOT based on fact!" Facts are socially constructed. When men grow up with the idea that cats are for girls, and not boys, they are less likely to like cats.

  20. Great response, Caren. I have always been a cat person, and I am proud of it. I cannot imagine life without my "cat family". They make me laugh, they make me cry, they give me love and I give it back. They are my muses. Not only do I blog about them, but they provide imagery for almost all of my ceramics pieces. Three cheers for cats!
