About National Pet Week®
National Pet Week® is May 3-9, 2015. Always the first full week in May, National Pet Week® is dedicated to celebrating the more than 200 million pets that enrich our lives each and every day. National Pet Week® was created in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA to honor the many important roles pets have in our lives and to encourage responsible pet ownership. Whether companion, comedian, confidant or protector, our pets are always there for us and don't ask much in return. National Pet Week® celebrates this bond and encourages pet owners to be certain they provide their best friends with all they need for a happy, healthy life every week of the year.
In honor of National Pet Week I thought it would be fun to feature a couple of times this week, the cats that are owned by my "bonus daughter" and my son-in-law. The first of her three cats that I am featuring is Willow. Willow is a Sphynx cat. (Her other two cats are both fosters-turned-adoptees by she and her husband) Admittedly, when I first saw Sphynx cats I was a little creeped out by their lack of fur. (Ok, I am an awful cat lover, I was partial to cats with fur) That is until I met Willow. Willow is one of the most intelligent and hilariously funny cats I have ever met. She is brave, feisty, active and incredibly friendly, oh-so-loving, and sweet. Even WITHOUT fur!!
My husband and I visited my bonus daughter and our SIL yesterday and these photos were just too hilarious not to share!
Meet "WILLOW"!!!!
Who is that knocking at my door?
Hmmm...do they have
any food for me???
If there is no food,
you will NOT
be permitted to enter!
Happy National Pet Week All!
Remember, when you visit other pets, come bearing treats!
(or at least a new scratching post like we brought to Willow and her kitty siblings!)

OMC!!! I just LOVE Willow! That first photo is hilarious! : )
ReplyDeleteyou would love her more in person for sure! She is HILARIOUS!!!!!!
DeleteMy human says you have to meet a Sphynx to truly appreciate this breed! The first time she touched one, that chamois feel of their skin took her breath away - and they have such awesome, affectionate personalities. My human prefers fur kitties too, but after meeting a few of them, she has come to love these little hairless beings too.
ReplyDeleteSummer you are soooooooooo right! I couldn't agree with you more!!! That is exactly how I felt!
DeleteHow awesome is Willow! Love that face - bet she was really cuddly and warm too.... we love the chamois feel of stroking these hairless beauties!
ReplyDeleteher skin feels like velvet! She is too active to pick up and cuddle though. She is only about 2 yrs old or so, so she is still a youngster but she is hilarious!
DeleteWillow seems like quiet a character!
ReplyDeleteshe truly is, she is also unbelievably intelligent!
DeleteWillow has great spots on her skin - their little wrinkled heads are cute - she looks very expressive! They have very sensitive skin don't they? It sounds like she's got a HUGE personality too.................
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sammy
yes she has spots like a little cow lol. She is EXTREMELY expressive!! I hear they have sensitive skin too, a lot of upkeep I would imagine. Oh yes, her personality IS "huge!!" xoxo
DeleteI can see the personality and spark in Willow's eyes! Does she really know how to open doors on her own. What a cutie! Looks like she has fur on her tail? I don't think I have ever met a Sphynx, but would sure like to some day.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she does know how to open the door. That was just ME using creative license lol You know it DOES look like she has fur on her tail, I never noticed that before. Will have to check that out!
DeleteWhat a personality ! We love your face on the last photo, Willow, it says all ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteOh yes!!! And with the last photo, her face is like "Go home....NOW!!" lol!!! In all seriousness, she fell in love with my husband. She kept jumping up on his lap when he was eating. It was too funny!
Deletewillow does look like a character.. such personality!
ReplyDeleteshe is seriously a most HILARIOUS and super affectionate cat. She is completely unique!
DeleteWhat a lovely cat Willow is that last photo made me laugh..what a poser haha!
ReplyDeleteshe is truly a hilarious cat!!! She is EVERYWHERE! lol. All of my bonus daughter's pets absolutely LOVE the camera, wish my two did!
DeleteWillow is adorable :) I hope you brought her lots of treats.
ReplyDeleteshe sure is adorable! Nope, didn't bring treats but we did bring a never used scratching post of Cody's! That was a huge hit with one of the other cats that will be making an appearance hopefully this week!
DeleteShe is so cute. She looks like she has lots of personality.
ReplyDeleteSue B
She is LOADED with personality!
DeleteHappy National Pet week to you too
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
and to YOU sweet furiends! xoxo
DeleteA different looking cat indeed. She's a huge Awwwwwww.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect Awww Monday. :)
She IS huge! She weighs more than Cody! You have a purrfect Monday too! xoxo
DeleteYou are amazing Willow!!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe's amazing looking. I've never met a sphinx cat in person. Willow looks like she has plenty of catitude! Do they have to put clothes on her so that she doesn't get cold in the Winter or sunburned in the Summer? If so, I'd like to see pictures!
ReplyDeletexxoo
Oh yes she has PLENTY of catitude!! She is truly delightful and affectionate. They say they are more "dog like" in their gregariousness. She LOVES attention! It's funny you asked about clothes because my bonus daughter dresses up ALL of her pets, and I can't remember ever seeing Willow in clothes. I will go to her facebook page and see if she is wearing any clothes. She is an indoor cat so being sunburned isn't something that would happen.......I will go an look at her page now. xoxo
DeleteShe seems to have a strong personality! What is a bit confusing for me about sphinx cats is the fact that they don't have they furry coat to protect them. Cats are so sensitive to the cold that I wonder how sphinx cats can bear the winter months.
ReplyDeleteoh she definitely does!!!! She is an indoor cat which would help with the cold in winter and the warmth/sun of summer. She occasionally wears clothes, but not all of the time.
DeleteOMC we want to give Willow a big SMOOCH. What a cutie she is!!! Mom says Sphynx cats are amazing and are warm and cuddly when you hold them. Thanks for sharing Willow with us.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Awww she would love it! I have learned that Sphynx cats ARE amazing and yep she IS warm and cuddly when you hold her, and soft like velvet!!! You are most welcome! xoxo
DeleteWillow is so beautiful. Kisses to Willow from us.
ReplyDeleteThank you and I absolutely will!
DeleteI have never seen a Sphynx in real life before, I'd like to. I wonder if they are touchy feely kitty too?
ReplyDeleteEmma and Buster
Yep they sure are! They are super tactile...friendly....she isn't aloof AT ALL. She is right there in the midst of everything!
DeleteOh My!! perhaps Willow should have her own blog!! MOL
ReplyDeleteDoubt that would happen for a variety of reasons:
Delete1) Bonus daughter doesn't enjoy writing
2) Bonus daughter works her butt off as a Manager of a local animal rescue here
3) God knows I won't do it for her!!! roflmao!
she is adorable....love that they all seem so grumpy yet tend to be very sweet
ReplyDeleteyou are so right!!! She is the epitome of "you can't judge a book by it's cover"...or...in her case...the lack thereof!! MOL!
DeleteWillow is awesome! And it sure seems like she knows who is in charge (i.e. Willlow)! :)
ReplyDeleteYep she is awesome and yep she knows who is in charge (Willow!!) lol! Also, two of the dogs were there before her, (the other two cats I will be featuring came after her)...but Willow rules ALL of them!
DeleteShe looks adorable. She has so much character in her face.
ReplyDeleteWOW that is one heck of a cat!
ReplyDeleteWillow is very beautiful! Mommy saw a sphinx in person when visiting Summer and her human at a cat show in March. That was the first time she saw one and it was so loving and had so many expressions she soon forgot about the no fur part!
ReplyDeleteSphynx cats are great! Their personalities are very similar to the rex cat's ; outgoing, people oriented and active. It's great that you could spend time with one up close and personal! We bet she made you smile more than once! :)
ReplyDeletethe critters in the cottage xo
What a personality she have !
ReplyDeleteXOXO
She is so cool looking, and it sounds like she has quite the personality too! Honestly, dogs or cats without fur seem so unusual to me, but I'm sure it's mostly because I've never met one in person. So I would love to meet one someday!
ReplyDeleteWow! Willow is drop dead gorgeous! And wes don't cares if cats has furs or not. Wes not met a cat wes does not like!
ReplyDeleteKisses
Nellie
Catzowey! Every week at our San Franfuncisco house is Pet Week! Yep but Signorina Willow youza rocking meowster in those pics
ReplyDeleteWell hello there, Willow. It's nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteWillow is gorgeous! When Merlin was a year old (19 years ago!) a friend came over with two Sphynx kittens. It was my first meeting of the breed and loved their velvety, hot water bottle feel.
ReplyDelete"hot water bottle feel"....I LIKE that!
DeleteMeowmy met a spynx kitty a long time ago...thanks fur reminding her that they feel like royal velvet when you pet them and they exude charm and warmth! Oh, yes and catitude to the max!!
ReplyDeleteWillow sure is a most gorgeous kitty!
National Pet Week?? It is national pet hour all the time in our den, MOL!!
She looks very cute and intelligent!
ReplyDeletePurrs xx
