Today is a super special day! Now I know that many kitties and woofies cringe when they hear the word "V-E-T", but I gotta tell ya, we would be in deep cat litter if we didn't have a good Veterinarian! Dakota and I are blessed to have one of the best! Today is World Veterinary Day a day when I can give my Vet and his associates a high-paw and tell them all how much I love them!
Veterinarians are a special group of health care professionals and scientists because they prevent disease in animals and treat animals of all kinds around the world. Healthy animals also contribute to happier and healthier people.
In 2000, the World Veterinary Association initiated World Veterinary Day on the last Saturday of April each year to bring attention to the many ways veterinarians contribute to the health and well-being of animals and people around the world. Most people know veterinarians as the “animal doctors” for our pets, livestock, horses, and a variety of more diverse animals such as zoo animals and exotic pets such as birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
I know that my Vet (and the staff at DePorre Veterinary Hospital), love me and are always looking out for me. Our Vet is gentle, caring and kind. He always tells Mom and Dad about what a "great cat" I am and that makes me purr with delight!
I started going to the vet when I was just a young kit and I remember the day like it was yesterday! Dr. "Smiley" (he is REALLY Dr.Lewis!), got the biggest kick out of me! He pulled out a pen and let me play with it while I was on the exam table, and he told my Mom "This one is FEARLESS!" He went on to say, "this can be a good thing or a BAD thing!"
This photo is from 2013 Before DePorre moved into their "new digs!!" And before Dr.Lewis had his beard! |
Thankfully it turned out to be a GOOD thing!
When I was neutered all of the lady Vet Techs fell in love with me and called me their "cuddle bug." They said that all I wanted to do was cuddle!!
Dr.Lewis always has time to talk to my Mom and always helps ease her worries, he always gives her the best advice. This past winter when I had my mysterious illness, he helped calm my Mom down (trust me that is no easy task!), and he was in constant communication with her. Mom, Dad, Dakota and I would be lost without him!
Mom, Dad, Dakota and I consider our Vet to be an important member of our family! Dr.Lewis used to care for Grandpa Bobo and he helped him cross the bridge. He helped Mom know when it was "time" to help Grandpa Bobo on his journey. When Mom felt guilty adopting me a mere two weeks after Bobo left her, Dr. Lewis said, "You aren't REPLACING Bobo, no cat could ever do that. You are making NEW memories with a NEW cat. Bobo would want you to give the same love to another cat that you gave to him." Those words helped my Mom more than he probably even knows!
We are truly blessed to have such a professional, caring, and knowledgeable Veterinarian and the other Vets, Technicians, Receptionists, etc. at DePorre Veterinary Hospital , are pretty darned good too!
Today we salute our Veterinarian (who deserves a medal just for putting up with our babbling, hyper and over concerned Mom!) and the staff at DePorre Veterinary Hospital, as well as Veterinarians all over the world!!! Thank you for all that you do!
Love from,
Cody
Totally agree, vets are a necessary part of our pets health, and should be recognised for a lot of the good work that they do.
ReplyDeleteYou are so fortunate to have such a great vet, and such a good relationship with him. My human has a good clinic we go to, but she doesn't have the awesome relationship that really makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteSummer you are right. We are beyond fortunate, we are truly blessed. I was blessed when I lived in Cleveland too....had an excellent husband/wife team there that took care of Bobo for 12 of his 18 years. Bobo was 12 when we moved to Michigan. Dr.Lewis is a true Angel and I tell him that over and over again!
DeleteHi Cody! I will probably never "LIKE" going to visit my vet but I do like my doctor very much. I trust him and his staff....they are gentle, kind, and talk to me to make me AND Mom feel better. I've seen Dr. Rethman my WHOLE life so I know he probably knows me better than anyone other than my Mom!!!! We are blessed aren't we Cody? We've got doctors who take care of us AND love us too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sammy
Hi Sammy! I am sooo happy that you have a wonderful Vet too!!! We certainly ARE blessed for sure!! (((hugs))) back! Love, Cody
DeleteNot all vets hunt cats for sport. Every one I have known have been very caring and compassionate people who deserve to be recognized.
ReplyDeleteMom and I are like Sparkle said in her comment. We have what we trust is a good Vet. We changed mid last year and have another one. We haven't seen him but a few times. We hope when push comes to shove that he'll be good to us. The techs are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! Thank you to all the dedicated caretakers who make the lives of our beloved pets better. It can be so scary going to the vet and having someone you trust is so important. Makes me think of Lorie Huston... miss her so much... Purrs from Deb and the Zee/Zoey Gang
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Deb!!! It is so strange that you said that about Lorie. When I was writing this post I was thinking of her the entire time. I miss her terribly too ((((hugs)))) and love
DeleteWe totally agree ! That's a great post ! We don't like to go to the vet, but we know it's for our good, and we know Claire trusts him. Purrs
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! You summed it up perfectly, it's all about TRUST!!! xoxo
DeleteWe have wonderful vets were we go too.

The gals at our office call our vet the animal whisperer. We like that.
ReplyDeleteHappy World Veterinary Day Cody. My best to your peeps. ♥♥♥
I LOVE THAT!!!! Have a fabulous rest of your weekend! xoxo
DeleteI hate it that I've been sick and missed this special day. I have super special Vets to thank each and every day. Hey, I'm feeling much better right now. Great post Cody!
ReplyDeleteOh Brian but your vets know how much you love them!! You are always saying that you do!! I am soooo happy you are feeling much better!!! Keep that going!!! Love, Cody
DeleteWe had no idea it was world vet day. There are some great vets out there, but some not so good. We wish all the good ones a great day!

Thank COD!
DeleteI am glad you have such a great vet. Ever since our local vet got bought out by VCA, there is a constant change of vets and most that they get are just out of school.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that, that is awful!
DeletePaws up to all the good veterinarians! We know we always say we don't like the v-e-t, but we know how important they are to us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post! That is so wonderful for you and Cody and Dakota to have such a great relationship with your Vet, sounds like a very special Human being.
ReplyDeleteOh my furiend he is!!!! He is a complete Angel...I am NOT kidding! Love, Cody
DeleteThe VET??? Oh no! We HATE the vet! But you're right, it's important for us kitties to have a vet we can trust our lives with. Happy Sunday, dear Cody! :) xx Roxy & Tigerlino <3
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad to read you, Cody and Dakota have such a good relationship with your vet. It's so important to have a vet we can trust and can help us to take better care of our babies. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Caren and Cody! We can tell that your vet is one of the special angels who walk the earth! And it is so important so have a vet that you trust and who truly cares about your animals. Surprisingly difficult to find some times! Our vet is wonderful too :)
ReplyDeletethe critters in the cottage xo
Thank you so much!!! Yes, he is.....I can't even begin to say it enough. I am so happy you have a wonderful vet too!
DeleteWhen I was in Cleveland, I had a great vet that cared for my Angel Bobo for 12 years, then when we moved to Michigan I was lost.
I had gone to one vet that was AWFUL. He treated Bobo with no warmth....he was so matter-of-fact and barely spoke to me at all. I went there once and never went back.
I was referred to my current vet by someone I used to work with. At that time I went to one of the owners of the practice and he is also marvelous (all of the vets there are quite good)...........then we met Dr.Lewis when he was on-call at an emergency vet clinic near our home (when we had to bring Bobo for kidney stones).....turns out he grew up down the street from us! We stayed with him within the same practice and pray he will be there for many years to come!
How awesome that you have such a great relationship with your vet! We love and totally trust ours, too. Happy belated World Veterinary Day, and have a great Sunday! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs!
We agree with Summer - having a great relationship is rare and wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOur vet clinic used to have the bestest of the bet, but now there are others in there, and the one great vet meowmy loved only does surgeries...sigh...pawppy and meowmy have recently discussed changing clinics, which they hate to do, after using the same one for about 30 years...but hey, if the peeps don't feel too understood by them then it is time to change. The rest of the staff there are wonderfur, so it isn't without pangs that they are considering this.
ReplyDeleteWhen Minko was really ill, the vet seemed to give meowmy the impression that meowmy had no knowledge that could be of help, and she felt she was being talked down to and her gut feelings were being dismissed. Sheesh. Same vet also thinks meowmy should not be feeding Minko. Um...if she didn't we would not have any Minko anymore...
We think we know where we will take our furry ones, but haven't acted on it just yet...
So happy you love yours, He looks like a real treasure!
I am soo sorry!! Feeling as if you are being talked down to has to be incredibly awful. If I had a vet like that I would be out of the door in a flash!
DeleteI am grateful that ours knows how "hands on" I am (and that goes for you too!), and he respects that. I think respect is incredibly important. We live with our babies on a day-to-day basis and ultimately they have to respect that there are just some things that we know about our pets that they don't.
Thankfully my vet always listens to me. I so respect his knowledge and conservative approach that I have never had a reason to butt heads with him.
Thanks. Its too bad we live so far away from your clinic...
DeleteSomehow the old school vets seem more willing to listen and not just make calls about give them this or that pill/food and all should be well...really??
MOL! Minko is sitting right between me and the laptop as I type, he knows I am blogging about him,MOL!
OMG so adorable! Please give Minko kisses from us!
DeleteYou betcha!! Smoochies to you all too!
Delete:)
DeleteOh wow Cody you awe twuly blest. We fawt we had a gweat VET till sis Lexi got sick and then we saw hims twu colows. But it always makes us happy when one of ow furiends can have a good 'sperience goin' to da VETs office. Hope y'all have a blest day.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Lexi
Cody, your Vets sound super nice and very good. It is great when a Vet clearly likes the animals he or she works to help. I hope you don't have to go there for anything other than checkups, but it is good to know you will have a good experience no matter what.
ReplyDeleteVets! "Shudder" Mes does not likes them, mes thinks they is a necessary evil, but that's just me. Kozmo, Jo Jo and Cinnamon and Ninja, all thinks that vets is great!!!
ReplyDeleteKisses

You are lucky you have such a wonderful vet. The original one I went to—cos I was adopted from one of their affiliates and the peeps got a discount—was terrible and scared me off vets forever. I was good the first time I went and then after they turned me over and almost killed me I hiss and bite.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Having a pawsome VET can make all the difference in the world.

What a great article. Thank goodness for Dr. Lewis and his staff. Thank you for the shout out to all the people who work to heal animals in the world.
