As many of you know, tomorrow is a special day, it is:
National Hairball Awareness Day!!
I have been blogging almost six years now and during that time it has been my pleasure to help support FURminator Inc. in their quest to spread awareness about those pesky hairballs! FURminator began celebrating the holiday in 2011, (and even though the holiday is technically on April 25th, according to Days Of The Year, FURminator has traditionally been celebrating it the fourth Friday in April, so today is our official celebration!)
Hairballs are uncomfortable and dangerous to cats' health—
they can even be deadly! They can cause blockages and all sorts of distress. Hairballs are easily prevented with regular
grooming, which reduces loose hair and the potential for hairballs.
Now, I wasn't particularly "gifted" in the fur department, but my Grandpa Bobo was and many of you reading this post are blessed with the most luxurious fur!
Even if I don't have long fur (except on my ample belly), I do clean myself and can ingest some fur just like the rest of you more fur-gifted cats! Mom helps keep my ingesting fur to a minimum by using my FURminator which I love and have been using for three years!!
This year FURminator teamed up with five YouTube creators to help spread this important message (if you cruise around the blogosphere I know you will see them on some of the cat blogs and they are posted on the FURminator Facebook page), but guess what? I happen to like this old video from a post I did in 2012 for FURminator Inc., which shows you just how much I love MY FURminator, much, much better!

Regular grooming with a FURminator deShedding tool reduces loose hair and the potential for hairballs. Plus, grooming allows for quality time with your cat! Look at me rolling around in ecstasy above, and you can tell just how much I love mine! It also creates a bonding experience with your kitty!
For more information visit the FURminator website, follow them on Facebook, (where you can also see all of the videos of the creators that they teamed up with), or on Twitter use #NationalHairballAwarenessDay and on Instagram at furminator_inc too!
I was not compensated for this post. I just love my FURminator and hate hairballs so I wanted to help spread the word!
Love, Cody
I get show groomed twice a month, so I don't get FURminated - but boy does Boodie! My human makes a whole nother cat out of her fur!
ReplyDeleteHa!! Too funny! I had said on your blog that you could make a whole other cat out of Boodie's fur and I hadn't even seen this yet! Too funny! love, Cody
Deletecould do with one of these for Speedy ,he is shedding like crazy,xx Rachel
ReplyDeletegood thought Speedy! I never thought of these for rabbits before! Love, Cody
DeleteGreat post! Like you, I am not very furry, but at this time of year I shed more fur than usual so my mum gently grooms me every day. Only on my terms, of course!
ReplyDeletePurrs xx
Athena
Thank you my furiend!! Oh you are sooo right, whenever we are groomed, it MUST be on OUR terms! Love, Cody
DeleteYou sure do love your furminator, Cody! I get brushed every day and I like it just as much as you do! :) Mum has been a bit confused with all the different types of furminator brushes. I think she needs to do some serious research now!!
ReplyDeleteCaren 'N Cody, can I just ask whether you have the long hair or the short hair deshedder? I am going to buy one and like you, Cody, Austin does have some quite floofy parts on his undercarriage! Thanks, Caro :) xxx
DeleteHi Austin my furiend! I believe I have the short hair one! I happen to LOVE my FURminator but I will be honest, we got the long haired one for Dakota and ready for this? Dakota was AFRAID of it! Geeze!!!!! That's how Shelties can be though, they can be real finicky...even more than a cat! I LOVE my FURminator though...Dakota is just a baby! MOL! Love, Cody
DeleteA woofie afraid!!? You learn something new every day MOL! The Staff has ordered the short hair one from Amazon today :)
Deleteyep! Dakota is our "scaredy cat" lol Can't wait to see how Austin likes it!
DeleteMom has made a point of brushing my cats once a week and they rarely get hairballs. Our last cats seemed to get them a lot, but they weren't brushed much. Happy hairball day!
ReplyDeleteEmma your Mom is one smart lady!!! You know what? I don't think I have EVER had a hairball! Must be cause of my FURminator! Love, Cody
DeleteGreat post. No matter the type or length of fur/hair, it needs to be groomed. Hairballs can form in any cat.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! You are right! All kitties should be groomed and FURminator rocks! Love, Cody
DeleteSpring is shedding time too. Lots of hair to contend with.
ReplyDeleteHappy National Hairball Awareness Day. Scritches to Cody. ♥♥♥
I hate it when I get furballs :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a groomtastic weekend :-)
"groomtastic" you KILL me!!! YOU have a great weekend to furiend!!! Love, Cody
DeleteDang it! I missed another fun day while I was stuck in the litter box. Howdy Cody!!!
ReplyDeleteDarned that litter box!!! Seriously pal, you MUST stop spending all of your time in there!!! MOL!!! (You know I am kidding, I feel so bad for you!!!) Mom and I are sending you TONS of love and many, many healing purrs! Love, Cody
DeleteWe are glad you love your FURminator so much! We don't get too many hairballs, thankfully. Lita has one every once in a while, but that is about it around here :)
ReplyDeleteMinko will throw up more than Pipo...go figure, Pipo hates getting brushed, Minko thrives on it...
ReplyDeleteLately Minko throws up furry little furs, even though he throws up lots...on empty stomach. He is an enigma...
Glad you don't have troubles with those nasty surprises on the floor...MOL!
Ohhh trust me, I used to have them big time with my Angel Bobo!
DeleteRoxy knows from firsthand exyperience how dangerous to cat's health hairballs are. A few months ago a huge hairball had caused a blockage and had to be removed by surgery... :( xx
ReplyDeleteOMG that is awful!!!! I didn't know!! Poor Roxy!!! That had to be awful!!!! I am so glad Roxy is ok now! xoxo
Deletemay every day be hair ball free! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWe love the Furminator on Domino but Merlin is too boney for it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reminder...I need to get out the Furminator and brush Samantha more. She doesn't love being brushed, but she definitely needs it.
ReplyDeleteyou are welcome!!! Show Samantha Cody and maybe she will come around :)
DeleteWe just got a new FURminator brush which works well for both cats and dogs. Review coming next week. We love it!
ReplyDeleteYep it DOES work well for dogs and cats....unless you are Dakota lol. I think I mentioned in an earlier comment that Dakota is TERRIFIED of his. I had to give his away to a friend who has a Lab. Dakota wanted NO part of it, but Cody LOVES it! Shelties are quirky, you never know what is going to make them nervous lol
DeleteI know somebody who is in love with his Furminator ....
ReplyDeleteHere we have one. It's very important for Loustiquette as she has a very thick undercoat.
Me I like it at the begining of spring. The rest of the time I dont need it as I am an Abyssinian.

Hisia
YAY!!! Soooooooooooooooo glad that that "somebody" loves it!!!!!!!! I do too! Love, Cody
DeleteFurballs are no fun. We have lots of floof and Mom Paula has to use multiple grooming tools for us and we still have problems.
ReplyDeleteGreat information ! We love our Fulminator, you'll read it tomorrow. Why tomorrow ? Silly Mum misunderstood her calendar (yeah, yeah, we know...) and planned our Hairball Awareness Day post on tomorrow ! Can you believe it ? Purrs
ReplyDeleteYour Mom isn't wrong...according to the "Days of the Year" calendar it IS tomorrow :) (I mentioned that in the first paragraph)....for some reason your blog is NOT coming to me anymore. I re-subscribed to have it go to my main email account and I am not getting it. HELP! xoxo
DeleteHairball awareness is so important! We don't have a Furminator yet… but Mom keeps saying she's going to get one! They are just a bit expensive.. have to save up for it!
ReplyDeleteI must get a furminator.
ReplyDeleteHi there, cat friend, Cody,
ReplyDeleteI do realise the importance of this pawst, dear Cody. However, you have been blogging fur almost six years? My dear cat, get some sleep! Pawdantic Penny!
The mom needs to furminated us more often.
ReplyDeleteWes don't has a furminator. Wes doe has some brushes that mes and Kozmo loves, but Jo Jo hates! Its a got thing shes gots short hairs. Oh! Our hairy slobbery sister sure needs to gets brushed and she soes not like it much. she's a heeler and they has a dense, fluffy under coat, and boy she sheds!
ReplyDeleteHappy Hairball day!

Nellie
Cody, you are SUCH a cutie, love your video, and love how you love the furminator!
ReplyDeleteAllie's got that thick undercoat that she "blows" each spring. We get a whole nother Allie out of her each year! MOL!
ReplyDeleteYou know what, you are sure right about those FURminator things. We've done so good with ours, Mumsy even got a second one for long fur just for Oliver. We think it feels good when she brushes us and some of us will even try and push the one getting brushed out of the way so we can be brushed again!
ReplyDeleteOk this is sooo strange, I am DEFINITELY PSYCHIC!! I was just thinking about you yesterday wondering how you are, and realizing I hadn't seen you around in a while! So happy to see you! Yes, aren't they just the best? Cody adores his!!! I love that some of you try to push the others out of the way, that is too adorable!
