I have always had an issue with Ground Hog Day which is celebrated in the U.S. and Canada. Supposedly, if the ground hog emerges from his burrow and sees his shadow, that means there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, then we will have an early Spring.
Why do I have an issue with Ground Hog Day?
Because Spring begins March 20th (some years it begins on March 21st), if you do the math, that is SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER regardless (slightly more). Then, depending on where you live, Spring NEVER starts until after April 14th, (in the Midwest we have had a number of significant snowstorms the first week of April!)...thus making Ground Hog Day and the skewed opinion of the Ground Hog useless.

It feels like Groundhog Day, the movie. More snow on the way, again...
ReplyDeleteCody, you make an awesome ground hog! Ok, you need to bribe the local ground hog with Num-Nums to get a good report, we'll have ours up in late morning...
ReplyDeleteYep, I was just saying I don't get the groundhog thing at all. I think it's another weird human quirk. Maybe they just want to let the weatherhumans off the hook for one day.
ReplyDeleteMOL!!!
DeleteNo ground hog over here just the boring weather blabbers. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Well we woke up to snow this morning, so I reckon if Punxsutawney Phil stuck his nose out, it would be frozen off! MOL
ReplyDeleteoh wow, you got snow too? Did you wake up to a foot of it like we did today? :(
DeleteNobody, including Phil is EVER right about the weather - it does what it wants to do PERIOD! HAHA Love your groundhog suit though Cody - it SUITS you! HAHA
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
hehehe! Mom thought so too! Thanks Sammy! Love, Cody
DeleteSome ground hogs live in the Alps not far from us, we should ask one about that meet stuff once ! Purrs
ReplyDelete"meteo", not "meet", stupid autocorrect !
ReplyDeleteOMG, that picture is so funny. I'm pretty sure the ground hogs wouldn't event be able to come out today because of all the snow!
ReplyDeletethanks my furiend!! You are so right!! He is buried here too!!!
DeleteHahaha, I love that groundhog picture of you, Cody. Hilarious. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeletethank you MOL!!!! You have a wonderful week too!!!
DeleteWell, apparently Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia did see his shadow, so they must be having some sunshine this AM before the storm hits them. There's no way Wyarton Willie will see his in Ontario -- it's pretty much blizzard conditions.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I think the whole groundhog thing is only for people in more temperate climates...like the UK and in much of the Stats. LOL.
Oh in our part of the country we have a good few months left until winter finally gives way! Come on groundhog, please help it come quicker!
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you. We are not going to have a good Spring until April and I live somewhat in the South so that little ground hog can do what ever he wants to do. Have a Happy Monday.
ReplyDeleteYep, you guys in April and for us, probably May! You have a Happy Monday too! We got about a foot of snow yesterday, not going anywhere! xoxo
DeleteCody, you make an adorable ground hog. I agree, no matter what we have at least 6 more weeks of Winter.
ReplyDeletethank you my furiend!! Yep, you are exactly right...in Michigan though, spring doesn't arrive til May...seriously.
DeleteHere in Colorado, it seems that spring doesn't start until May! It always makes me sad because I grew up in the midwest and it was usually warm by April.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you used to live in the Midwest? April? Seriously? I should change the post because in Michigan and Ohio Spring never starts til the END of the first week of May! lol
DeleteBOL now that's a cute groundhog
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
thank you!! xoxo
DeleteCody makes a cute groundhog. Mes LOVES it!
ReplyDeleteBTW Groundhog Day is actually Imbolc (a pagan festival) and it is celebrated on Feb 2, as that is when you really notice that the days are longer (and its halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox) -- letting us know that winter will be over in the next 6 weeks.
It is snowing here today, so mes thinks that Beisiker Billy will NOT see his shadow!
Kisses
Nellie
thank you! Yep I saw that, and linked to that above....the problem is, it's a lie lol. Spring does NOT arrive in Michigan, Ohio and many other states until May. xoxo
DeleteWell, we did like his movie!
ReplyDeletePing agrees with you today Cody.
ReplyDelete6 more weeks of winter...bring it on! lol
ReplyDeleteWE live in California; he doesn't matter to us :) LOL!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone's warm and dry today.

You make a cute groundhog Cody. You need that thick coat to keep warm.
ReplyDeletethank you my furiend! You are right about the coat, I sure do need it!
DeleteCody, you look ridiculously adorable in that groundhog outfit! Maybe you should take the role of the meteorologist for the day! You would probably give a more accurate reading :)
ReplyDeletethe critters in the cottage xo
thank you and that is a great idea!!!!!
DeleteWe totally agree! It's been snowing since last night -- another 14 inches or so on top of what was already on the ground. Talk about groundhog day! :/
ReplyDeleteYa know, we should just set up an umbrella above the groundhog's burrow. That way when he comes out, he won't see his shadow. What do you think? :)
we got almost 14 inches too and we had snow on the ground (but not as much as you did)....Love your umbrella idea! xoxo
DeleteMOL!!! We never did the math about 6 more weeks of winter. TOO FUNNY!
ReplyDeleteI think about strange things :)
DeleteWe got hit with a big snow storm. More coming they say. Really cold again too.
ReplyDeleteSue B
we got almost 14 inches. I feel your pain! Be safe!
DeleteWell heck...he's as accurate as anybody else...
ReplyDeleteYou are so right and I love the pic from Pinterest!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't trust the weather predicting skills of a rodent!
ReplyDeleteMOL Cody..we don't know if you are applying to be a weather mans or a groundhog MOL...we say groundhog..the weather peeps are nuts MOL...paw pats Cleo xxx
ReplyDeleteCody, I think you need to have a chat with your mom about that picture, Ahem...
ReplyDeleteMOL!!! You are right! Love, Cody
DeleteAww how cute do you look Cody,Stay warm Dude,xx Speedy
ReplyDeleteMOL! So much pressure for those groundhogs! When no matter what they say, winter will be here when it gets here! Although we admit that we are hoping for warmer weather sooner than later!
ReplyDeleteGround hog day ... very strange !
ReplyDeleteI like the picture.
Douce soirée
Nat à Chat
Ha-ha! You are a cute rodent, Cody...tell Mr groundhog to hide, hide, hide...we don't need winter anymore...6 weeks or not...
ReplyDeleteSpring...a figment of our imagination today, and fur many weeks to come...we had...8-1/2 inches + 3 inches + 5-1/2 inches...which adds up to 17 inches...OMC:( Way, way too much and more is falling tonight, Hey, give it a rest already!
And in May when it might just get to be nice, well then all of a sudden its midsummer and we have to stay inside to hide from the excessive heat and mugginess...sigh...
Does that Ground hog stuff count in our Country too...As if...do you come to my place in your oufit, Cody :D Pawkisses for a Happy Evening :) <3
