DECLAWING CATS: just DON'T do it!Join Jackson Galaxy LIVE in his SECOND CAT MOJO Lecture Series on Google+ Hangout !

If ever there was a reason to join Google+  this is it!

When Cody and I were contacted yesterday asking us if we would help spread this info we were more than happy to do it!

We are long-time fans of Jackson Galaxy, who is a  "cat behaviorist by day, and rock 'n roller by night" as well as the host of the hit TV Show on The Animal Planet, "My Cat From Hell."

Jackson knew long ago that he had a deep understanding of animal behavior and a gift for enlightening people on how to identify with their pet’s actions. With his repertoire of holistic remedies and techniques like the “Cat I Love You,” Jackson can connect with even the most out of control feline and help strengthen the bond between pet and owner.. His first book, which we had the honor of reviewing, Cat Daddy: What the World’s Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life,Love, and Coming Clean  tells the story of how his work with animals helped him overcome drug addiction and personal hardships, and his second book Catification is due to publish in early 2015.

About Cat Mojo: Cat Mojo is an outlet for feline expert, Jackson Galaxy, to share his thoughts on all things cat related- from declawing, the essence of 'cat mojo', to squirt gun diplomacy, and of course Jackson's craziest behind the scene stories as a cat behaviorist. Join the feline frenzy at http://animalist.com/catmojo#about-show and share Jackson’s love of cats and expertise. #TeamCatMojo

STOPPING THE DECLAWING OF CATS is a cause that is super important to us. Declawing leaves cats defenseless, it can cause a bevy of behavior problems, as well as physical problems and is CRUEL.  We are grateful that Jackson will be addressing this issue and will education people about what they CAN DO INSTEAD.

    1. Hi Nat a Chat, I am embarrassed to say that I don't know what "le foie gras" is....I am super glad to hear that declawing is forbidden in France, hope it becomes forbidden in the U.S.

  4. We love Jackson Galaxy too! Declawing should be outlawed. It's such a cruel thing to do.

  7. It's not possible for us to follow the hangout, but mum wrote a post on her blog and made a donation to the Paw Project to help our US furry friends. Here is the link : http://www.swissideasinbulk.ch/en/2013/10/onyxectomy-stop-cruelty/ . Purrs

  8. I'm against declawing, but I have TWO declawed cats (didn't do it) and I can tell the whole world, that declawing DOSEN'T change their personality/behavior. Plus, those myths about cats not using the litter box because of declawing, is bullsh*t, while I agree that it hurts them and I've seen pictures and videos of cats getting declawed, it doesn't change their behavior. Sorry, but this is true.

I feel that spaying and neutering is cruel, as well and is just as painful. Both should be banned.

  10. We got the news a little late to try it out. If we can try Twitter the first time last night, we can try anything. Right, Mom?!?

    1. that's right! I believe he is going to do these once a month (with different topics) I was there (It was my first Google Hang out experience), I loved it! You can just read the comments, you don't have to say anything if you don't want to. I enjoyed it much more than I enjoy Twitter chats.

  11. That is a subject that we don’t teach enough. When Gramma got her first cat, she and TW knew nothing about how to care for one. All Gramma’s friends said to get her declawed so Gramma did. When Faith came home with her little paws bandages, Gramma cried and said she’s NEVER do that to a cat again and she never did. That was even before TW knew it was amputation.

    1. CK thank you for sharing that. I have never had a cat declawed but back in the day when that happened to your Gramma people didn't know as much about the hazards of declawing as they do now. I was at the Hangout tonight and it was great, Jackson pretty much said for people who have made the same mistake, the most important thing is if they learned from it so that they never do it again and your Gramma learned from it. (((hugs))))

  12. Oh no, I missed the Hangout. I will do my best to catch the next one.
Several other countries have banned declawing and I wish the US would as well. It is a needless surgery that can cause pain following the procedure and later as well.

I have had people ask my opinion of declawing at our spay/neuter events and tell them how the procedure is done and suggest alternatives. I also give them a crash course on the proper way to clip claws which solves a lot of problems.

  14. I have to start using my Google+ so I can try the Hangouts. And declawing must stop. Thanks for sharing this information and in turn being part of ending the practice of declawing through education. A lot of people don't understand what it really means for a cat and then when you explain it, they gasp!
