I was honored to have been given the opportunity of reviewing another book of Dena's back in 2010: Who Moved My Mouse? A Self-Help Book for Cats (Who Don't Need Any Help) Call me biased, but being a fan of Dena's sarcastic wit and spot-on ability of telling us what cats would REALLY say,if given the ability to speak human "language", I KNEW that Does This Collar Make My Butt Look Big?, an illustrated diet book for cats,(the illustrations were done by Ann Boyajian of the blog Cattywampus, she also did the illustrations for Careers for Your Cat), was going to be another winner. I wasn't wrong.
"In less time than it takes to cough up a hairball, you too can be fit, feline and fabulous!
Cat-tharsis has never been this fun!"
What did Cody think when HE read it?
Well, you will have to hear it from his own mouth!
Hi all it's Cody! I tried, I really did! Mom was supposed to review this book a month or so ago but I hid it, so well that she couldn't find it! Mom was supposed to review it yesterday, but once again, I foiled her! Until TODAY. when Mom found, Does This Collar Make My Butt Look Big? under the kitchen table, and I knew I was finished, done, kaput!
Yes that is ME on the scale! I just used the quote from the book with my photo |
You see, for some time now Mom has been working hard at trying to keep me at a "normal" weight and basically, much to my dismay, she has succeeded. With the New Year approaching, Mom and legions of others will be making resolutions, or as we prefer to call them, intentions for the New Year, I know Mom's weight-loss challenge is high on the list, and NOW thanks to a certain Ms.Dena Harris, MINE WILL BE TOO!
Mom made me take the quiz in Does This Collar Make My Butt Look Big? to find out just what type of an eating purrsonality I have. Once I took the quiz, (and kitties it will be the same for YOU so watch out!), Dena Harris suggested different weight loss programs, that are listed in the book, based on my own purrsonality.
My results?
I had 6 A's and 7 C's which makes me a COMATOSE CAT ("Diet, schmiet!")who leans more towards being an ADD CAT (with my higher score being in the 7s)
The basic trait as stated in Does This Collar Make My Butt Look Big? of the ADD CAT is my weight goes up and down, up and down, (which happens to be true!) "I'm motivated to lose the weight until hunger kicks in." My supposed and true goal in life is to be the "last cat standing at the food dish." The suggested Diet Plans for an ADD CAT are:
- Paleo Diet
- The Zone
- Raw Food Diet and The Living Food Movement
To learn about these diet plans, other plans, and to find out what type of program would work best for YOU, you will have to READ THE BOOK!
Mom thinks it is funny, but we all no she has NO sense of humor, that Dena Harris takes REAL Diets, Diet Groups such as Mom's personal nemesis, Weight Watchers, Mom has gained back ALL of the 44 lbs she lost on the program, but I digress....who Ms.Harris calls "Weight Stalkers", and Jenny Craig, aka Catty Craig) and describes their basic philosophies in a way that will have you rolling on your back exposing your ample bellies in fits of meows, which we all know is laughter!
Mom doesn't realize it, but many of the diet "tips" that Ms.Harris lists in the book, actually all of them if you remove the hilarious "catspeak", can be applied to HUMANS!
"with laugh-out-loud insights into daily feline life, cat lovers will feel better about their own dieting and fitness struggles when compared to those of obese cats unable to avoid inhaling that can of tuna."
I suggest my Mom stop laughing and utilize these suggestions/tips/insights for herself!!
Kitties, there are exercise tips, a Bonus Section which includes:
- 21 Easy Steps to put your cat on a diet! (you didn't hear this from me! Mom made me tell you!)
- Superfuds
- Top Ten Tips for Continued Weight Loss Success
- Ask Flabby Tabby
"Have a question about diet, nutrition, or how to get your favorite jingle ball out from underneath the fridge? Renowned feline health expert and life couch coach Flabby Tabby is here to answer your questions."
So my fellow felines , what do ya think? Have I piqued your interest? Do you think it is time you read this book before your HUMAN does? Why OF COURSE you think so! This book would make the PURRFECT HOLIDAY GIFT for the

I would LOVE this book!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds hilarious...and I'm a big fan of Ann and her wonderful illustrations.
Of course Katie would most benefit from the book...not that she'd ever admit it!
Thanks for offering the giveaway!
GG
Sounds like a cool fun read.
ReplyDeleteHave a super Saturday Caren and Cody.
Best wishes Molly
We enjoyed the book too - although I have the opposite problem and am underweight! But it actually drives my human just as crazy as if I weighed too much! Either is not good.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun and interwstinf thing to read:) loved the pic with that white cat in front :)
ReplyDeleteGosh Cody I've always thought you were the purrrrfect size - just like I'm the purrrrrfect size. Dieting would be tough - especially with all the yummy smelling people food around. BUTTT, this does sound like a cute and fun book and Mom says even though my weight hasn't changed in a bunch of years, I could turn into a lazy bum and get tubby almost overnight so we'd best be safe than sorry....so we'd love to win the book and it would be (are you ready) for ME!
ReplyDeleteKitty Hugs, Sammy
You write the most entertaining book reviews of anyone I know!
ReplyDeleteIngrid THANK YOU!! You TOTALLY made my day! xoxo
DeleteWe are not entering the contest, but love your very thorough review! Here's how things are over here: CatMom doesn't diet because she gains weight when she diets due to thinking about food all the time. Scooter says, "I am not fat, I am fluffy. That's my story and I'm sticking too it." Alice from the Palace didn't stop eating long enough to enter an opinion on dieting.
ReplyDeleteJobi thank you but we are sorry you aren't entering! Cody is like Alice!
DeleteThis book sounds funny but very useful too!! Our cat Samantha is a tad overweight, and we just can't seem to get her to lose any! We definitely need help. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one terrific book review. It sounds like such a cute book. Hope all of you have a great week end.
ReplyDeletethanks so much Marg!
DeleteScylla so needs to read this book everything makes her butt look big. You did a terrific job reviewing it Cody. ~Socks
ReplyDeleteMOL!!! She sounds like my MOM! MOL! Thanks so much Socks! Good luck to you and all who enter!
DeleteAlasandra thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy cat bro Bert is the beneficiary of such a book. I would love to win it for him! It sounds hilarious, and that cat bro of mine is also a piece of work. He has lost some poundage but if we withhold food he starts eating his toys, electric cords, toilet paper, etc. I think we need this book! Great review...again!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Emma! Good luck to you and all who enter! This book is BEYOND funny!
Deletegreat review - we need the book to give to Ivy.
ReplyDelete~the boys
I no longer have a fat cat but it looks like a great read.
ReplyDeleteWell, all of our cats have collars, and all are on low-calorie diets, so I'd venture to say all (Moosey, Gracie and Zoe) will benefit from this book. MOL!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds great. We don't know Dena Harris, but love Ann (and her illustrations!).
What a great review and a nice book idea. Of course none of cats here need it. Right? We love Ann Boyajian!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much guys! We love Ann AND Dena for sure!
DeleteWe love the photo of Cody on the scale! (A lot more than Cody loved the experience, it looks like.) We don't have enough hours in the day to read right now, so we better not enter the drawing.
ReplyDeletethank you! That was taken a month or so ago when Cody was at the vet for his allergies. I took the photo and I weighed him! He was actually a good weight this time 11.2 (he was down from a high of over 12 lbs!) Do what I do, just keep your books in a giant stack until you can get to them :)
DeleteMy Girl Itty" Bits! When we adopted her she was barely 3 pounds and was such an "Itty Bitty Baby!" At age 6 she is 15 pounds of tortitude!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a really interesting and fun book! Good luck to those entering the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book! Thanks for the review, whoever gets a copy is one lucky kitty.....or human......or.....um....dog? LOL
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read it, but my kitties are at good weights. Or rather Star leans toward too thin.. but my mom's cat would definitely benefit from reading it! So if I won, I'd share it with Sir Moose-a-Lot Roadkill Goodyear Thunderbottom, the 22 pound tabby.
ReplyDeleteHmmfffff. Mommy says I weigh twice as much as brandi did! I can't help it that she was a dwarf-sized cat! Mommy thinks I need this book.
ReplyDeleteQUINN
My cat stefan could use this book and was mad when i told him so, i guess im a bad mom.
ReplyDeleteYou write the best reviews. Thanks so much and hope Cody gains...er, "loses?" a lot from this book. PUUURRSSS... Dena
ReplyDeleteDena I am HONORED! Thank you! Both you and Ingrid have me speechless. YOU write the BEST books!! I was laughing my head off while I was reading it. It is one I will read again and again! Thanks so much for stopping by, that was super kind! xoxo

ReplyDeleteWhalem, er, SALEM needs this book!!

ReplyDeleteSounds a great book. I have two that would benefit. Charlie and Cashew. Thanks for the giveaway.

Whoa! An X-rated cat book for 18 and over! How come humans are always putting US on diets but continue to eat chocolate like it’s a health food. HAH! I’m not on a diet (soon I’ll be writing my diet tips of the rich and famous) but HHGutt can stand to loose some, er, Gutt. MOL!
ReplyDeleteMOL... this book sounds hilarious. We used to poke fun at some of the larger kitties I worked with (saying things like extra fluffy and well-fed) and I remember one of the vet's saying to me "Boy, I'm glad they don't say stuff like that at the human doctor!"
ReplyDeleteI used to be a super-skinny boy. Then after the Great Outrage of 2012 (my Tutoring at the ripe old age of 8), I filled out some. But I certainly have no need of a feline diet manual!! Now, if you want to talk about the Human, well--that's a WHOLE other story.....
ReplyDeletesound funny, good luck to everyone,xx Rachel
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great read.
ReplyDeleteMy weight goes up and down too so Mum has stopped feeding me the cat treats I liked :(
She needs to lose some weight too by cutting down on chocolate!
Sounds like a good book.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great book and we would be thrilled to win it. My foodaholoc cat Rocky would certainly be the one who needs it most.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, that sounds like a good book.
ReplyDeleteWe think it applies more to Mom than us ;) heehee

Thank you for your kind thoughts and purrs when our Tillie crossed the Bridge.
It happened so fast.
We miss her SO much.
There are two types of cats in our house…the chubbies and the skinnies. Giulietta, Mauricio, Calista Jo and Lisbeth could all probably stand to lose several ounces up to a pound or two. The rest seem to be able to stay svelte without a problem. We'd really would love to win this. Please enter us in the giveaway. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteohhh meow! Misty would benefit from this, since everytime we go on vacation and leave an automatic feeder, she keeps eating and eating and eating lol and the housesitter who comes has to keep filling it.

I finally got over here to read this post! Sorry it took so long, I've been really behind due to technical issues. This sounds like a hilarious book. Of my 2 kitties, Manna would need it the most. She's getting a little chubby around the middle. Cinco on the other hand wouldn't gain an ounce if he ate the whole bag of food in one sitting! He's one of those lucky people who has a great metabolism or something.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Caren! Thanks for the review - it sounds as if there are many cats in the blogosphere who can benefit! I won't enter because I already have the book, but I'm rooting for Salem (Whalem).....
ReplyDeleteHey, I finally bit the bullet and made my reservation (hotel and plane) for Blogpaws yesterday. I'm psyched!
Hi Ann! You are welcome! Now, now, I can't have any "favorites!" Winners are chosen through random.org! Sooo glad I will see you at BlogPaws this year!! Woooo hooo! Even though you are a veteran, please join the Newbies group to share your experience with others!

ReplyDeleteYou may experience moderate to severe abdominal pain and cramping, although this should quickly pass.
A very common cause of anterior pelvic tilt is the imbalance in the
pelvic and hip muscles.
