Hi every furry! It's Cody and today is a special day! Today is:
EARTH DAY!
What is Earth Day?
Glad you asked!
From Wikipedia: Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Read more about it
here
I was helping Mom read some of the sites that she follows and we came across a great article from
Care2.com that lists the
Top 10 Ways to Make Every Day Earth Day!
|
Is this incredible or what? My dear furiend Nellie made this for me! I am circling the Earth with other KITTY FURIENDS!

Here are some of our faves from the article, with my cat tail spin on it!
USE LESS WATER!!
Did you know that if your humans turn
OFF the water when they brush their teeth they will save
FOUR GALLONS OF WATER A MINUTE?
AND:
Does your human
REALLY need to soak for hours and hours in the tub? Does your human know that when they soak in a tub they are actually soaking in their own dirt?? You would
NEVER see a cat doing that,
it's disgusting, just sayin'!
I have heard of humans that take 20 minute (or longer) showers! C'mon! Is
ANYONE really
THAT dirty? Then, humans add to the equation by
singing caterwauling the
entire time they are cleaning themselves. The noise of that
ALONE is
noise pollution which affects the Earth and my sensitive kitty ears!
My tip?
Be more like a
cat. Use
LESS water, take about 5 or 10 minutes to get yourself clean. And do it
QUIETLY, you know, like
CATS DO!
PUSSYFOOT AROUND!
In other words tell your human to WALK! It is not only good for your human physically, but if they change their routine and shop at places that are reachable just by using their PAWS instead of those loud, smelly, machines on wheels, imagine the gas they will save! That will translate to helping our planet
AND enabling them to have
MORE MONEY to buy
YOU TREATS!
RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE!!
According to the Care2 article:
THE TOP 10 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO RECYCLE (as listed by the National Recycling Coalition Inc) ARE:
- aluminum
- PET Plastic Bottles
- Newspaper---we kitties know about this one for sure! We like to lay on them, crinkle them, we have our humans donate them to rescues, etc.
- Corrugated Cardboard-this is also another specialty of kitties! We turn them into SCRATCHING ZONES!! Are we SMART or WHAT?
- Steel Cans
- HDPE Plastic Bottles
- Glass Containers
- Magazines
- Mixed Papers
- Computers-YESSS let's recycle these puppies (and dogs too MOL) but remember to get rid of pawsonal information before you do so! Mom learned from our cable guy last week that if you stick magnets on your modem you will fry ALL of your information and you can do that before you dispose of it!
I am DEFINITELY doing my part when it comes to recycling that is for sure!
Want to know how?
I found the most
PAWFECT toy that is not only
FUN, GREAT FOR THE PLANET, INEXPENSIVE, (you can get zillions of 'em for less than a bag of kibble!) and...when you are done playing with it, your humans can
EAT IT! Guess what it is?
POPCORN!!!
I'm not talkin' about that junk that comes in a bag in the store that is full of chemicals. I am talking about the kind that you pop in your microwave, YOURSELF! I'm talkin' the
GOOD OLD FASHIONED kind that your humans actually makes in a much
HEALTHIER way for themselves.
You can also make popcorn in the microwave the way my Mom does!
1) Get a large glass or microwave-safe plastic bowl
2) Put a 1/4 cup of popcorn in the bowl
3) Cover with a lid (or plate)
4) Pop 3 to 4 minutes (depending on your microwave!)
That's it!
Some seasoning ideas are:
1) parmesan cheese
2) salt or artificial salt
3) Imitation butter spray
4) olive oil
5) garlic powder
6) Italian Seasoning
You can use any or all of these together...or separately! You can also use:
1) Chili powder
2) Smoked paprika
3) cinnamon
Now get popping!!! And....for your toy......
You just wait until your human drops a few kernels (which they are sure to do) and you are on your way!
See what I mean? That is a short video but trust me you will have
HOURS of fun!
So my furry furiends, I gave you some great suggestions to help Mother Earth on
Earth Day, I hope you will do your part!
Now, enjoy the video that I posted last year that is my favorite rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow! Sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole who left this beautiful Earth too soon!
Love, Cody
