There are times that Cody and Dakota catch me completely unaware, and have me laughing, often when laughing is the thing I need the most but am the least likely to do.
A few days ago I was feeling incredibly stressed. I had a number of things on my mind, I couldn't focus, couldn't concentrate on work that I needed to get done, and I seemed to find annoyances and distractions at every turn.
Dakota was having a bark-a-thon in the living room, Cody was circling, pacing and whining in the kitchen for food, having just eaten a mere five minutes earlier. I couldn't make a move in the kitchen without the gray- striped- eating- machine- with- feet pleading for just another morsel. His pitiful cries and facial expression were reminiscent of the movie "Oliver" ...
I thought I would lose my mind!
Mind you, I was attempting to work in the kitchen, as I am doing now, when I could have easily moved into my office, which is where my work SHOULD be done. That would have been too easy.
After numerous and unsuccessful attempts to stop the barking boy-wonder in the living room, and trying to ignore the pleading face in the kitchen that screamed, if-you-don't-feed-me-soon-I'm-gonna-die, I had had enough.
I ripped the laptop cord out of the wall, grabbed my coffee, editorial calendars and a host of other "necessities" and decided that the ONLY place I could go that would offer any semblance of peace and quiet would be, my office.
A food obsessed cat and a dog who loved to hear his own voice, would soon be on the OTHER side of my door while I would revel in the sanctuary that is my office.
I plopped my laptop and supplies on my desk and began straightening up in an attempt to bring some balance and quiet to my world.
I lit my salt lamps and aromatherapy candles and breathed a sigh of relief. I
I breathed an audible sigh of relief.
Alone at last, silence and calm were FINALLY MINE. I would, at long last, be able to get something accomplished.
Or so I thought...I turned towards my desk and something caught my eye......I shrieked to my husband..."OH NOOOOOOOOO!!!"
"What's wrong?" he yelled from the living room.
"Come and LOOK!"
Just when I thought I was BLISSFULLY ALONE, THIS is what I saw:
Sitting on top of my desk, behind my files, with a face staring at me as if to say, "So? You thought you got rid of me? I will NOT be deterred, you are MINE Woman, ALL MINE. Now BRING ME FOOD" was Cody!!!
I had forgotten that the door to my office holds a CAT DOOR at the bottom. I might have wanted to be alone but Cody would have NONE of it.
I looked at him and laughed myself silly. It was the BEST gift he could have given me that day.

And so he got treats, right? Treats? I mean, he deserved treats for making you laugh, right? Right? I mean, I don't think I'll be able to sleep if I am worrying about whether Cody gotted his fudz! After all, he looked like he might have STARVED if he didn't get MORE!
ReplyDeleteSpitty, are you sitting? No...he didn't :)
DeleteMummy thinks us kitties have super senses and we know just when our pawrents need us mostest :)xx
ReplyDeletePrincess Jasmine that is sooooooo true! xoxox
DeleteGreat story!
ReplyDeletethank you!!
DeleteOh gosh Caren, that is hilarious!! Cody definitely had the stress relieving medicine you needed. I mean, just look at that face!!! hahaha!
ReplyDeletelol thank you! Poor Cody, then he has that unusual lip that makes him look even funnier. Poor baby...he was born with it :) I couldn't help but laugh because I soooo thought I was alone...and THEN........
DeleteSometimes what we need is right in front of us. Great story. I'm glad I'm not the only one who stresses out and struggles when everything I ever needed is right there, staring me in the face.....or sitting on my iPad. Whichever. Mistletoe and Hitch are like a never ending comedy. I just need to take time to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteDorothy you are sooo right and I thank you! I love when you said "I just need to take time to pay attention" soooo true!
DeleteLOL! Cody deserves treats and cuddles!
ReplyDeletetrust me...does he look underfed? lol. Ohhhh he gets TONS of cuddles! He is a major cuddle-bug!
Delete:D More hugs to Cody!
DeleteYes, I do have "follow by email", it's near the bottom of the page.
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! I will be right over! My "blind" Mom must have missed it the first time around :)
DeleteThis was such a funny story. That photo is too cute.
ReplyDeleteDiane thanks so much! It was taken that day...I seriously nearly died. Imagine shutting a door behind you thinking that you are alone...and then......
Deletelol
Ha ha ha ha ha! I couldn't have resisted laughing at that face, either!
ReplyDeleteHe reminded me of Big Brother :)
DeleteAnd now I'm dying with laughter too, Caren... because I can't tell you how many times the same thing has happened to me!! :D (Sans the cat door, though; since most of our doors don't quite latch all the way, they're no match at all for one large, determined Ragdoll boycat, LOL...) GREAT story. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMOL Glamkitty!! OMC!! I bet you just wanted to roll with laughter! I just couldn't believe it when I turned and saw THAT FACE!! Thanks for your kind words xoxoxo
DeleteYup cats and dogs and donkeys are the best for making their peeps smile. Your day sounds like mine every day times 20 in the cat department. Someone is always hungry. Loved that post. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh marg they sure are!! lol about my day "sounding like yours times 20!!" OMC!! I would have to be locked up MOL!! Thanks so much! xoxoxo
DeleteI have to agree- pets add life and happiness just by being themselves. Noah likes to sneak into my studio and crawl under my work tables then plop on my feet. He looks up at me - you need a moment with me- pet! pet! So, I do. Always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteAwww Allen, I LOVED THAT! Cody will do something similar. Then I am just overcome with guilt for having been so busy :)
DeleteHehehe... Way to go Cody! You did it! You brought a smile to your mom's face. It's the least we cats can do, I think. Well, that and providing the peeps with the necessary supervision they so desperately need. purrs
ReplyDelete@Nerissa...I always do :) Love, Cody
DeleteOne can NEVER be alone when one has a cat!
ReplyDeleteJust saying....
Kisses
Nellie

ReplyDeleteyep that's how they are! Thanks...hopefully in January...
Deletethat is awesome....not the stress part, but the Cody part. :)
ReplyDeleteAwwww thanks! I knew what you meant :) It will get better!!
DeleteLOL, go Cody! What we resist persists.
ReplyDeleteLayla is THAT ever the truth! lol. Hmmm...must be why my husband married me lol
DeleteYou can always count on a cat. Love that picture. lol.. Hugs GJ xx
ReplyDeleteGJ soooo true!!! Thank you! xoxoxo
DeleteHehehe....so Cody is as cheeky as me....hehehehe,xx Speedy!
ReplyDeleteSpeedy, cody wrote the BOOK on "Cheeky" lol! xoxoxo
DeletePerfect! And, I see you caught him in mid-meow.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Not quite "mid-meow"...Cody has had a strange lip since he was quite young. It is almost like he has too much "gum" by his teeth. At first I thought it was a rodent ulcer but it isn't. Vet has checked it many times. Just a minor deformity that makes him that much cuter :)
DeleteThat is so funny! We do have a job to do, screaming and annoying moms
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
MOL Benny & Lily and we do it quite well, don't we?
Deletedood...ewe noe thiz best part of this ...ewe stickin yur tongue out at yur mom....

DeleteWelcome to my world..LOL I only have a small kitchen, I am constantly tripping over Alfie or Mollies ball, where she rolls it in to me, in the hope that I will throw it, whist cooking a three course meal. They do make you laugh, and we wouldn't be without them :) If you were stressed, should of mailed me, we could have taken a break..lol xx00xx
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
Mollie lol. I hear ya. We have a SUPER tiny kitchen too. We don't have a house...just a 2 bedroom condo (which was formerly an apartment)...we can barely fit 4 people eating in our kitchen and that is the exact reason Dakota isn't permitted in the kitchen. It is bad enough that I trip over Cody so I know what you mean! xoxoxo
DeleteCaren, Thank you! Oh what a belly laugh I got! How did you ever get him with his tongue sticking out?
ReplyDeleteBoy, I needed that.
Connie Marie
MOL Connie Marie, glad you liked it!!! Well...I don't think that was his tongue...my Cody has a strange upper lip that sometimes looks worse than others. My poor boy!
DeleteHAHAHA! Way to go, Cody! You knew exactly what your Mom needed. :)
ReplyDeleteI sure did! Love, Cody
DeleteMOL! What a face! Who could say no to that! The only thing you needed after that was for the dog to be able to fit through the cat door, right?
ReplyDeleteHaaa! Love it! Thankfully Dakota was held back by a babygate lol...he hasn't figured out that being a Sheltie he could easily jump the gate if he wanted to!
DeleteHAAA! But of COURSE Cody is the center of the Universe as you know it - he's the CAT.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooooooo true!!! :)
DeleteAhhh Cody you know when to make an entrance!
ReplyDeletepurrs

DeleteHee hee what a fab picture!! That's what us pets are hear for, to remind you when you forget stuff and make you laugh when you are trying to be your most angry! I hope they both got extra treats?!
ReplyDeletethanks!! You are sooo right! They ALWAYS get extra treats...well Dakota does...Cody gets extra rabbit kibble since he can't eat treats :)
DeleteSweet
ReplyDeleteOh Cody!
