Kidney Stone Symptoms In Cats, And Snow Leopard Lithotripsy
Years ago, my Bobo, like his Mama, had kidney stones. He basically had no symptoms other than he vomited white foam numerous times throughout the day.
He was rushed to the emergency vet and it was discovered that he had SIX kidney stones. Bobo and I shared EVERYTHING, including our multiple stones!
If anyone needs me, I am busy having my third lithotripsy!! I have had three since April 25th and today's litho brings my lithotripsy grand total up to SEVEN!! Fun times!!! I was shocked (pun not intended) to learn that Chloe the Snow Leopard completely understands what this involves.

WOW. I had no idea what the treatment involved. That's amazing they were able to treat Chloe that way. ...I'm so, so sorry you have to go through this again. (and again and again...) So, are you anesthetized for this also? ...Good luck, Caren. I hope this is the last time you have to go through this.

that treatment is really cool, and I learned a lot from it, while watching your vet in the video.

Wow, that was fascinating! And you've had to have this done six going on seven times? I hope there is an end in sight for this treatment!
ReplyDeleteAunty Caren,
ReplyDeleteMama was devastated when I fell sick a few months ago and the vet said I had crystals in my kidney. Is that the same as stones? I hate staying in the hospital for weeks.... Here's a hug for you...((((((((((HUGS)))))))))) har har har *sad laughs*
Brad
Ouch! I think is all I can say! I hope all goes well Caren and that after this there will be no need for any more of these xox
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I had no idea! Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
I feel your pain. Went through my first lipotripsy several weeks ago. Some of the stones didn't break well and ended up passing several over a week. OMG, isn't it the worst pain, EVER? Several ER visits, stents, and ended with a c.diff. infection to top it all off. Never want to do that again. How on earth did you survive so many lipos? Hoping lots of water, and watching diet will prevent further stones.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best for today's procedure - may it be the last one for you!
ReplyDeleteFascinating video, but I'm even more fascinated by the fact that Bobo also had kidney stones. I've come across quite a few situations in my work when cats seem to take on their owners' illnesses. I've often wondered whether cats do this in an attempt to heal us.
You poor thing, I don't know what that would be like although my husband has had it in the past.
ReplyDeleteGood luck today, Caren. Paws crossed and purrs headed your way.
ReplyDeleteYes, let it be the last time you ever need this, please Fates!
We will all be thinking of you today and that gentle rumbling you hear will be our purrs.
ReplyDeleteOur doggy friend ate the kidney stones recently We are hoping they "pass"

Hi, I'm so glad you visited my blog and hope you'll come back to see if that pesky "follow by email" button was successfully enabled. I've never had cats but my first job at a nature center involved caring for a gorgeous ocelot and taking him to schools to talk about endangered species. So while we're really dog people here, I think Cat Chat is very cool!

My goodness! I'm sending a whole whack of purrs, ASAP! purrs
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry that you have to go through this yet again, Caren. We will be thinking of you, and sending up some purrs and prayers. And hugs.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry sweet Caren to hear that you have to have that done again. Sure hope you will not have to do it again after this time. Thinking about you and including you in our prayers. Hugs and nose kisses
ReplyDeleteAs interesting as it was, we hope you won't ever have to go through it again. We're sending you our purrs and keeping you in our prayers.
ReplyDelete@The Furries that is a nice and sweet thought but trust me, there will be MANY more! It is just the nature of the condition that I have, but I appreciate the wishes!
ReplyDelete@chancy thank you!! But...if you read the above comment, I sooooooo appreciate the well wishes for not having one again but trust me, i will! xoxoxo
@meowmeow mans thank you!!!
@Nerissa thank you!
@Amy an ocelot!!! How incredibly cool!!! I will be right over to subscribe and THANK YOU!!!!!
@Benny and Lily......WHATTTTTTT????!!!
@Brian LOVE that thought! Thank you!!!
@Fuzzy I soooo appreciate it, but trust me, there WILL be more!
@Diane my sympathy to your hubby!! :)
@Ingrid that is a most interesting thought. Poor Bobo. He was so incredibly attached to me that if he did that he certainly did make a HUGE sacrifice because he had SIX stones at one time removed. I remember when it happened I couldn't believe it! That is quite interesting, I pray Cody doesn't follow suit. Don't think he will because Cody is much more self-absorbed than Bobo was. Thank you for your wishes of no more of these but you can count on the fact that there will be! xoxoxo
@Along These Lines OMG my heart goes out to you!!! I am sooo sorry you had such an awful litho experience and pray that you are on the road to recovery. Do they know what causes your stones? Since I have "spongy" kidneys my stones will NEVER be gone but drinking tons of water, lemon juice and staying away from high oxalate foods can slow down their formation. OMG you had a stent? That is my worst fear. So far I have never had one and never want one! I have had many infections (did they give you an antibiotic when they did the litho? My Urologist puts it in the IV while they are doing the litho). Ohhhh yessss kidney stone pain is the WORST!! I was lucky that I only had 2 out of the 7 lithos that involved passing super painful debris. You just never know how they are going to break. My heart soooooooo goes out to you!!! ((((hugs))))
@Molly I never knew about the snow leopard either!
@Cat thank you but there will be! xoxoxo
@Brad, yes...crystals CAN lead to stones but not always. I am praying that yours never do sweet baby! xoxoxo
@Sparkle YEP!!! That is my claim to fame! lol. Sadly due to the condition that I have lithos will ALWAYS be in my future but thank you sooooo much!
@Faith that wasn't my vet in the video but I am glad you liked it!!
@Katie and Glogirly, yep I am under anesthesia but they don't strap us down the way they did to the leopard lol. But yep there is anesthesia! Sadly, with the condition that I have I will always have to have lithos! Thank you! xoxo
(((hugs for Caren)))
ReplyDeleteWe hope this is your final and last treatment.

Oh dear - I do hope you don't have to suffer too much with these. I understand from other people that this is a very painful experience. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Very interesting video t00 - that poor baby.
