I have had the pleasure of knowing Sandy Robins for a number of years now, after having met at a host of blogging conferences/events. She is a complete and total delight in person! Sandy Robins is an award-winning multimedia pet lifestyle expert, author and radio, TV and pet industry personality. She is also Paul Smulson’s BFF (which also stands for Buffy Fan Forever)
Dr. Paul Smulson
has practiced oral surgery for 35 years. He worked as a photojournalist for the Chicago Daily Defender during the Michael Jordan era and has had photographs appear in Sport Magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times and Fox Sports’ Beyond the Glory. He photographed zoo animals for years before focusing on Buffy.
FROM THE PUBLISHER:Born into the body of an orange tabby, Buffy has experienced life in a way most humans never do. Making the Most of All Nine Lives documents Buffy as he trades hairballs for golf balls, scratching posts for the Evening Post and meowing a yawn for mowing the lawn. With this great new collection of thoughts and photos Buffy has transcended from litter box to literature. No cat owner’s library is complete without this delightful yarn.
DID YOU KNOW?
that the term "tabbies" refers to a coat pattern and is NOT a cat breed? Talk about embarrassing! I have been a "Tabby Mom" since late 1989 and I did NOT know this until recently! "A tabby is
any domestic cat that has a coat featuring distinctive stripes, dots,
lines or swirling patterns, usually together with a mark resembling an 'M' on
its forehead." No wonder when I would try to research the "breed" Tabby" NOTHING would come up! That is beyond EMBARRASSING!
My Angel Bobo |
Cody has the distinctive "M" on his forehead and some classic Tabby stripes and dots on his neck, legs and belly, but isn't nearly as distinctively a "Tabby" as my Angel Bobo was, as seen in the photo above.
Bobo was with me for 18 years and was the first Tabby cat to steal my heart! He was the original inspiration for this blog and it is ultimately dedicated to Bobo and Cody.
The Extraordinary Life of Buffy the Cat stars one of the most handsome orange tabby cats you will ever meet! (Ok, we bloggers know a number of handsome orange tabbies, but Buffy is right up there with them!) The book is 128 pages packed with the most darling photos you will ever see, it is small, (5x6), which makes it the perfect size to carry with you!
Neither Bobo nor Cody would ever allow me to take the creative and UNPHOTO-SHOPPED (is that a word?) photos that you will see in this darling book! That is just part of what makes Buffy so extraordinary, he is truly a "one-in-a-million cat!"
"It may be Thanksgiving, but this looks too good to share"Photo Courtesy of Triumph Books |
Sandy Robins creatively and often hilariously puts Buffy's "thoughts behind his actions into words so that cat lovers everywhere can live vicariously, enjoying this amazing feline's people skills and escapades."
"Let's solo the piano now. But I'm going to give the pedals a skip."Photo Courtesy of Triumph Books |
Paul Smulson had "spent most of my life feeling ambivalent toward cats", until his neighbor's cat had kittens and he and his wife adopted two of them. He soon discovered that "there was a besotted cat person hidden inside of me."
One day, he put headphones on Buffy and reached for his camera. To his amazement, Buffy sat for five minutes holding different poses while he snapped away. He couldn't decide who was having more fun during these photo sessions, Buffy or himself.
"YES! Feline groovy..."Photo Courtesy of Triumph Books |
FROM PAUL SMULSON: From my own personal transformation into a cat lover, I learned that I was not unique. Many people don't realize they are cat lovers until they get an opportunity to interact with a cat. My hope is that by enjoying this book, more people will give cats a chance so that ultimately more deserving felines find love and forever homes.

Although my human has always known that tabby is a coat pattern, it was only when she had Sparkle that she realized that all tabbies are marked with the M on their foreheads... which means that, technically, we Somalis are also tabbies, because even though our fur is ticked and has no pattern or stripes (and shouldn't!), that M on our foreheads reveals where our coats' origin lies.
ReplyDeleteWhat a totally adorable sounding book - Buffy is quite the "model" and while I've always known that gingers were special (tee hee), this guy's got IT for sure! I read a cool story once about the famous "M" on our tabby foreheads having been bestowed on us from when a cat made his way into the manger when Jesus was born and Mary having given him a pet on his forehead....the "M" mark forever a part of a tabby. Anyway, thanks for a chance to win this book - the Tabby Cat Club is celebrating Tabby Cat Day on the 30th too. YAY FOR US!
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
Yep!!! I heard that same story!!!!! I know about the Tabby Cat Club celebrating on the 30th............wonder if I should share this post there? Hmmm...maybe! Love you!
DeleteWell, the pictures totally made me smile. I would love to read this book. Sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteThis books looks and sounds too cute! Buffy is obviously a very calm, gentle soul, and I'm certainly going to have to check his book out. We've been waiting anxiously at our house for National Tabby Day. After all, all three of my feline furbabies are tabbies (not to mention that one of them is also celebrating a birthday tomorrow)! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post!

What a great giveaway. I'm in.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect day Cody. My best to your wonderful mom. ♥♥♥
What a nice book !
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh... of course tabby refers to a coat.
It is not an obligation for a tabby cat to have stripes or spots. A tabby cat has nice black line around his eyes, the M (or egyptian beatle) on his head and the end of his tail his black.
Tabby coat means that the hairs have stripes of color, 2 or more.
Loustiquette is maquerel tabbly.
Hisia's coat has absolutly no stripes or spots. She is ticked tabby. Abyssinians, Somalies and Singapuras are ticked tabby. Ticked tabby is ... a magnificient coat ! Very special one.
Tabby cats are my favorite cats. They are so beautiful !
Bonne soirée

ReplyDeleteWhat an oversight... I was imprinted by a tabby cat in my early childhood and am addicted to them. We are now enjoying our first orange tabby, Rufus the Red. With Mickey Mouser, orange and gray is now my favorite color combination.

That sure sounds like a great book and a great cat. We love our tabbies here for sure. You all have a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie Buffy is! Her book sure does look fun.
ReplyDeleteMoosey was a tabby, even though he was mostly white. He had most of the M on his forehead, tabby spots, and a striped tabby tail. :)
